Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said this weekend that he will introduce a resolution to rename the Senate's Russell Office Building for Sen. John McCain, who died on Saturday at his home in Arizona.
McCain died 13 months after he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
Schumer, D-New York, praised his colleague as an American patriot and said he would introduce the resolution “so that generations remember him."
"As you go through life, you meet few truly great people," Schumer said in a statement. "John McCain was one of them. His dedication to his country and the military were unsurpassed, and maybe most of all, he was a truth teller - never afraid to speak truth to power in an era where that has become all too rare."
The building Schumer is proposing to rename is one of three Senate office buildings adjacent to the U.S. Capitol. Construction was begun on the building in 1903, and it was opened in 1909.
It was called the Old Senate Office Building when it was renamed in 1972 for Sen. Richard Russell Jr., D-Georgia, who served in the Senate for 38 years.

Speaking of Schumer - WHO in the heck is that woman that always sits at his left when he is giving a speech - the one with the glasses and no expression. WHAT the heck is she there for??? Seems she is always there with him when he is speaking, like some piece of jewelry attached to him. Weird!
If they want people to remember McCain when they see it, then blow it up and leave a smouldering pile of rubble.
I agree with that! And I hope Rush finds some things Schumer said about McCain when he was running for president. I doubt Chuck praised McCain then.
The Senate Republicans could also propose that the building be names after five senators—Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI), or the Charles Keating Jr. Federal Home Loan Bank Building.

Frankly I would like the building to be renamed the Strom Thurmond Senate Building.
Interesting that Richard Russell is also the name of the Horizon employee who flew the stolen Q400 out of the Seattle airport, over the area of the final resting place of the submarine named Richard Russell.
