Republicans say confirming a replacement would be a problem
Republican senators grew increasingly vocal in their warnings to President Donald Trump if he fires Attorney General Jeff Sessions, including threats not to vote for a replacement.
Sen. Ben Sasse came to the floor Thursday afternoon to read into the Congressional Record the statement that Sessions, a former Alabama senator well-liked by his former colleagues, issued in response to criticism from Trump.
Sessions was highlighting the independence of the Justice Department, and Sasse, a Nebraska Republican, wanted it to be perfectly clear that he would have the attorney generals back.
Bizarrely, there are people in this body now talking like the attorney general will be fired, should be fired, Im not sure how to interpret the comments of the last couple of hours, Sasse said. I would just like to say, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, and as a member of this body, I find it really difficult to envision any circumstance where I would vote to confirm a successor to Jeff Sessions if he is fired because he is executing his job, rather than choosing to act in a partisan hack.

Target date: Nov. 7. A better one would be right after Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
For once the betraying jackasses aren’t from Arizona.
If you want to be president, run for the job. Meanwhile, shut your pie hole.
They’re backwards, corrupt, swamp creatures.
When are these two up for re election
Everything is a problem for the senate.
Unless its voting for funding Planned Parenthood.
Thats not a problem.
Bush League Republicans must become extinct before the Republic does.
Sasse, politicizing his position on the judiciary committee, needs to be booted from the committee.
There’s no room for politics on that committee.
Is it just me or does this president get threatened a lot by his own party? I can’t remember a single time, not ever, when president Obama was dictated to, or ordered to not do something. I don’t recall a single creep in the senate warning Obama NOT to send billions of dollars to Iran and yet this president is NOT even allowed to fire an incompetent who he appointed in the first place.
Collins and Sasse? Who the heck are they?
Both Sa$$e and Collins are up for re-election in 2020 with Trump. Trump should actively campaign against them and for a true conservative replacement. Surely Nebraska can do better than Sa$$e. He is as big a $hit disturber as John “is he dead yet” McCain. As for Collins, if Maine doesn’t have a decent Republican to take her seat, give it to the RATs. Maine is a mini-$hit hole state anyway.
Sessions has to go now. Hes protecting the mueller farce.
if he is fired because he is executing his job
Dont I wish.
Collins has to have an AG that refuses to prosecute PizzaGate pedophiles and baby murderers and cannibals.
Really, Sasse is insufferable and a complete backhole too!
They are utterly powerless, likely more so after the election.
And their threat is really pathetic: if you fire Sessions we will block a new attorney general.
So first, President Trump needs to fire Rosenstein, for which Sessions has threatened to resign if he does. Then President Trump needs to find an honorable and loyal person at Justice and name them as the temporary appointment. With instructions for him to start racking up corrupt Democrat heads with indictments that Sessions would never do.
Yet they have no problem with the others behaving as “partisan hacks”
Trump should tell these two to stop with the threats.
