The company said this week it is shuttering 46 more stores in November. The locations are spread across the United States (See a full list below.)
"We continue to evaluate our network of stores, which is a critical component to our integrated retail transformation, and will make further adjustments as needed," the company said in a statement.
Liquidation sales at the 33 Sears stores and 13 Kmarts are expected to begin next week, according to Sears. The company also said that eligible workers will receive severance and be able to apply for openings at other nearby stores.
Sears said in January it was planning to shut more than 100 stores. It then announced another round of roughly 100 store closures in May. Sears was operating 894 stores as of May 5, which is the latest available total provided by the company.
With CEO Eddie Lampert at the helm, Sears has been trimming its real estate footprint as sales dwindle at its stores and shoppers increasingly opt to ring up purchases online or outside of shopping malls. Sears is currently evaluating a bid from Lampert's hedge fund, ESL Investments, to buy the Kenmore appliance brand from Sears for $400 million. The company had previously sold its Craftsman tool brand.
Sears is still testing new concepts, like stand-alone mattress stores and combined Sears and Kmart locations, but retail analysts say it will be hard for the company to bounce back from its dire situation.

Sears shares have fallen more than 85 percent over the past 12 months, bringing the company's market cap to $127.8 million, or less than Lampert is willing to pay for the Kenmore brand. The stock hit an all-time intraday low of $1.15 earlier this week.

$1.15 a share? I've seen junk bonds with better results.
Sad. Just sad.
The board shouldve fired this CEO long ago.
Shutting in November? I would think they would close after the end of the year. To capitalize on all the Christmas sales and shopping that people do in December.
But really. What’s the point? Who shops at Sears anytime? Including Christmas.
How did they screw this up?
Sears needs another Arthur Martinez.
They’ve been going out of business on the installment plan since the 1980’s.
I didn’t know K-mart still existed. I was in the Key’s last month and there was a K-mart. Surprise, surprise...
How did they screw this up?

You’da thunk that stores like Sears and J.C. Penny, with their very strong catalog sales business model, would have been ideally poised to take advantage of the eCommerce boom of the ‘90s and 2000’s.
Basically digitize the Sears catalog and put it online, and accept online orders instead of mail or phone orders.
But no, they were both mismanaged right into the crapper.
Nobody shops as Sears for Christmas, their sales numbers last year holiday season were abysmal.
I’m sure there are various factors. Such as, competition from Walmart in recent years, and consumers buying more and more items on the internet.
Looked to see if the one in my town was closing.
I haven’t been inside of it, but once in the last 45 years.
Closing retail stores just before Christmas.
Sounds like a brilliant strategy.
A few weeks ago, I had to go to a Sears store to pick up a lawn mower I ordered online. As best I could tell, there was only one check-out clerk in the whole huge store, and he had no idea how to use the register. A small (very small) line formed as he tried one thing after another for about 20 minutes. There was also just one guy at the pick-up station, and he was hostile and rude. Unbelievable.
Land's End was a great brand that they partnered with-- good quality stuff at a reasonable price.
I hope against hope that someone will buy them and turn them around. There was a lot to like about Sears. As I've gotten older, I've basically skipped the malls because I don't like the crowds and the jockeying for parking and I generally need to get rid of "stuff" rather than acquire more.
Includes the Sears that has been in Glenbrook Square Mall in Fort Wayne Indiana since the mall was constructed in 1966.
They screwed up in 1993, when they eliminated the catalog business instead of embracing the internet and moving it online. Amazon.com was founded about one year later.
Sears chose to become a brick and mortar retailer at the worst possible moment.
Sears was built on providing Americans whatever they needed, and shipping it directly to them where they lived. Abandoning that started the slow, painful death of the company. The ashes of the Sears catalog were the fertilizer for Amazon.
Because Sears isnt needed.
You might as well look for a Bloomingdale’s.
