U.S. Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, warned President Donald Trump on Tuesday over a possible pardon for his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.

“Any attempt by the President to pardon Mr. Manafort or interfere in the investigation into his campaign would be a gross abuse of power and require immediate action by Congress,” Warner said in a statement.

“Action” by Congress.

Well, damn, that’d be the first action we’ve seen from Congress in a couple decades.

If he chose to pardon Manafort, I suspect Mr. Trump will have to wait until the end of that second trial. I’m told that Manafort has yet one more trial of ‘this & that’ to deal with now cobbled together by Mueller.

We're actually talking about tax filing problems from 2005 ... right?

Manafort was convicted of tax evasion for the years 2010-2014, inclusive; failing to file a report of a foreign bank account in 2012; and two counts of bank fraud.

Ah Senator Inebriato, upholding a fine Old dominion tradition embodied by other senatorial drunks such as Claude Swanson.

Why I would ask? Pardoning a run of the mill tax evasion conviction? Or are we getting at their real motivation? To punish someone for helping to elect Trump?

It might be an act of strength if Trump does indeed pardon Manafort and does so ASAP. It would show he is not afraid of the witch hunt or Mueller closing in on him.

Attempt? WTF is with this guy? The President’s pardon power is absolute. If he pardons the guy, that’s end of story.

I guess part of the decision whether to pardon would be based on was he guilty of the charges he that was convicted for. These charges are from years before he worked with Trump.

If the dems are warning Trump about pardoning Manafort, they must be planning on having him sing or compose. Pardoning him from the crimes he’s just been found guilty on does not obstruct justice....especially with regard to the bogus Russian collusion.

No, the president can pardon him for any federal crime, even if he has not been charged.

Key Senate Democrat

“Key” on what?
He is in the minority. He is not key to anything. He can’t do sh*t.

warns Trump not to attempt to pardon Manafort

Or else what? Reminds me of the threats from Charles Schumer during the Gorsuch confirmation.

Bill Clinton pardoned Marc Rich over billions in unpaid taxes, if I remember correctly, Al Sharpton was ‘pardoned’ by Lois Lerner over millions of dollars in unpaid taxes. Why should Trump NOT pardon him?

Does anything stop Trump from, with his own money, helping Manafort with his finances?

Oh, really? So where was Mark Warner when William Jefferson Clinton pardoned Marc Rich? Nowhere to be found...so the hypocritical SOB should shut his pie-hole.

Tonight, Trump could be pardoning him at this very moment.

Trump not interested. Beside Mueller is the most powerful shadow president now. Trump won't move against him.

Trump should order an audit of Warner’s personal financial affairs.
