During a campaign stop Saturday in Corpus Christi TX, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) told the crowd of voters that he has a fairly basic view when it comes to the issue of immigration.
You know, I have many times summed up my views on immigration in four words: Legal, good. Illegal, bad, Cruz said.
In reference to the upcoming midterm elections, Cruz added that This election is about jobs, its about securing our border, and its about protecting our constitutional rights.
Cruz told reporters that he believes the election between himself and his opponent, Congressman Beto ORourke (D-TX) will be based on one thing.
This election is a fundamental choice and I believe its going to come down to turnout, he said.
ORourke, who posted video of himself skateboarding in the parking lot of a Whataburger restaurant Sunday, said he feels an intensity when it comes to the data the polls are putting out.
Everywhere we go, theres just an intensity the numbers feel good. The energy feels good. And again, if those polls are to be believed, were within contention.
However, Cruz told NPR that ORourke has moved to the hard left and that he hopes to energize them enough that they show up and vote.
And I think hes gambling on there are enough people on the left for whom defeating and destroying Donald Trump is their No. 1 issue, that hes hoping thats his path to victory. I dont see that in the state of Texas. In Texas, there are a whole lot more conservatives than liberals, Cruz said.
In regard to the immigration issue, ORourke said he wants Texans to live out their values by allowing DREAMers to become citizens.
I think the this state, the most diverse state in the country, should lead on immigration. Free DREAMers from the fear of deportation, but make them citizens today so they can contribute to their full potential. That is not a partisan value, thats our Texan identity and we should lead with it.
We can either be governed by fear, fear of immigrants, fear of Muslims, call the press the enemy of the people, tear kids away from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, or we can be governed by our ambitions and our aspirations and our desire to make the most out of all of us, ORourke said, adding And thats America at its best.
He also touted his grassroots campaign by saying he is not running against anyone, were not running against anything. This is Republicans, Democrats, independents alike, coming together without the help of corporations or special interests, or political action committees, to do the work of this country.
However, Cruz referenced a major difference between himself and ORourke, stating In the Senate race, there is no political race in the country with a starker divide between the two candidates. My opponent, Congressman Beto ORourke, is not doing what Democrats usually do in the general election. Hes not pretending to go to the middle, hes not pretending to be moderate, the senator concluded.
Cruz knows he is in trouble, but he seems unsure of what he can do about it.

Cruz is leading in the polls by 6%. Hard to see how that puts him in trouble.
O’Rourke is just a typical democrat. Short on facts, long on empty feel-good emotional rhetoric.
Sad that this has to even be articulated.
You said is succinctly with an economy of words... like Cruz. Thank you.
Based on that link it would appear the resolution you cite was passed on the 16th of August and Sen. Cruz was in Corpus Christi on the 16th I believe it is unlikely he voted in the affirmative. I was unable to find a breakdown of recorded votes, but admittedly I only spent a few minutes looking.
I believe the only way that Cruz is in trouble is if the turnout for Republican voters is very low.
I also believe if turnout is high and the race is close or O’Rourke wins the Republic is in trouble!
Just my opinion worth what you paid.
Thanks for the information. I am not a fan of Ted, but I wasn’t trying to be unfair to him. If he didn’t participate, it should be known.
I also spent just a few moments looking up the tally.
I’m with ya sockmonkey. A couple b*to signs have popped up on my street.

IOW, show up and vote for Cruz. My guess is the polls aren't that tight, and Cruz will win by four or five points. Thanks Kaslin.
I suppose could just not show up to vote....surprised Rand Paul would have voted for this nonsense....wtf?!
Well we know McCain didn’t vote for it.
That’s two at least.
I’d like to think at least a few Republicans could grasp this issue, but these days the Republic defenseless against it’s covey of Brutuses.
I don’t want bad immigrants, regardless of their status, so Cruz’ statement is insufficient.
“the numbers feel good. The energy feels good. And again, if those polls are to be believed, were within contention.”
Feeeeelings!
Barry signs?
Beto is a made up name for a “Hispanic” Irishman.
This must be why he supported a vast expansion of H1-B and the legalization of illegals here now.
For those who want to argue that, they better do a Google about his past statements so they don’t look like silly sycophants.
Ted Cruz has always been one to shade the truth about what he does and does not support. And in my opinion is not fit for Federal Office.
But the people of Texas will decide that. Not me.
And certainly Beto is not fit either.

Huh? I know he is white. I live in Texas. He has been visiting every town in TX from huge to small. He was here about a week ago, and so many people showed up the fire Marshall had to come out.
As I said, we are reliably red. I think numbers wise, 2nd reddest in the State. He is taking nothing for granted, and our GOP local leadership has/is.
There was Texas RINO leadership that didn’t want Cruz to win against their establishment candidate either.
Great idea Ted, so some Democrat declares anyone that’s ever had a boo-boo is a “refugee” and we all drown in 3rd world garbage!
So Republican of you.

What Dewhurst in 2011/2012? 6-7 years ago?? Hello, I am in the present year of 2018.
So the establishment that opposed him is trying to help him win this time?
You complained that the party didn’t seem to be doing much to promote his candidacy. I’m not surprised by their actions.
I will be voting for him in the fall.
Wrong Ted Cruz. Simple minded and wrong.
Islamic immigration is bad. All of it. Legal, illegal, refugee, whatever. No country has ever been improved by the growth of Islam within its borders.
Hispanic immigration is bad. All of it. With or without papers. While Hispanic Americans have individually made positive contribution to our country, we could have gotten those contributions elsewhere without the fatal poison that is Hispanic voting.
Wherever they vote, Hispanic Americans vote overwhelming for socialism and open borders. They have already politically murdered CA, CO, NV, NM and VA. When they kill Texas, they will have killed our nation.
