we had lard,fried food etc,but the difference is that back then we all played out, we worked, we got exercise.
Today most kids cannot even run a 400 meter lap on a track, and trust me I have kids in the school, and we all see this.
During P.E at school today kids are not made to run so long as they keep moving walking etc. Back then we were made to play sports, run, do track etc.
I have thought about this too.
I think it comes down to two things.
1. People work in more sedentary jobs
2. People eat more calories.
I was in elementary school in the late 60s and early 70s. There were very few overweight kids in class. Maybe one per classroom.

The problem is all the processed food I bet. Grandma and mom actually cooked a meal For the family.
Have you looked in the freezer section lately? Its disgusting all the ready to eat meals in there.
Then of course kids dont get recess or PE like they used to. And getting to go out all day long in the summer without supervision is a thing of the past.
