Trump changes US policy: 'Conserving oil no longer an economic imperative'

In terms of its effect on the lives of Americans, as well as the economy, the change of U.S. policy announced by the Trump administration last month to almost no media attention is a big deal. Ellen Knickmeyer of the Associated Press picked up on it belatedly:

Conserving oil is no longer an economic imperative for the U.S., the Trump administration declares in a major new policy statement that threatens to undermine decades of government campaigns for gas-thrifty cars and other conservation programs.

"But what about all 5 of the idiots who bought this idiot car?!"

I'll have you know that there are are a good many more than five idiots, here in Portland! The little rolling roadblocks are littered all over town...

What I'm hoping for is that this announcement hints that mandated 10% ethanol will go away, and we can get our mileage back...

I believe it was thomas gold that first publicly made the argument that petrolium is not fossil based but, in fact, is manufactured by the earth on an ongoing basis. It’s called abiogenic.

This is a quick hit on the info:

It’s still controversial, though. That said, the reality we live in does support the idea that supplies are being replenished somehow.

My 2014 Corvette had Run Flats. Nowhere to put a Compact Spare Tire in that puppy.

My 2011 Mustang didn’t and it came with a 12V Air Pump and a Can of Flat Tire Sealant. A Compact Spare was an $200 Option.

My Ex B-I-L a liberal PHD, told me we were going to run out of oil in 50 years

We were being told that 50 years ago.

That being said, I'm all for real conservation. Not windmills and solar panels, but using less and having better public transportation.

Ack! I have not been to Portland.

I did just recently return from Denver though, and I can report that I did not see any of these idiot cars there.

What a POS that thing is.

And it’s a scam that very profitable

For the same money you can get a real car that gets excellent mileage and has better everything inside

It was the least expensive car to own that we have ever had.
Almost zero mechanical issues,

Untapped oil reserves in the South China Sea are as high as 200 billion barrels and trillions of CF of natural gas...that’s why China is building military bases there. “Oil shortage” is just another lie.

>>>That being said, I’m all for real conservation. Not windmills and solar panels, but using less and having better public transportation<<<

I’m all in for anything that conserves Energy, as long as I’m not paying for my Neighbor making the decision to buy things that do it like Solar Power and Windmills.

Using less is an individual decision which is usually based on affordability. Kind of like Clinton’s “fair Share” mantra. My opinion of what paying your Fair Share in Taxes differs with what a Democrat Socialist thinks.

Public Transportation works in a Civil Society. Depending on where you live, today’s Society is not that Civil.

Leftists love Public Transportation. It helps them control the actions of the Populace and it is seldom self supporting. In other words, those of us that never use it pay for those who do. None of those people are paying for my Cars, Insurance, Gasoline and Maintenance are they?

1, It doesn’t get that great of mileage for it’s size,
2, you have to use premium gasoline in the engine (where’s the economy in that when it’s 50 cents more a gallon),
3, they are ugly as a mud fence,
4, resale sucks,
5, if you’re in an accident in one, you are never more than 2 feet from the POI.

"Leftists love Public Transportation. It helps them control the actions of the Populace and it is seldom self supporting."

Something to reinforce your argument. I did a study, some years back, about the rise and fall of passenger rail in the United States. I was bemused to discover that passenger rail has always operated at a loss for private railroads.

It seems that people are a problem cargo, with their insistence on heat, softer springs for ride, special smoother roadbeds, air to breathe, nonsense like cushions, water, food and toilets. Passenger rail has always been a loss leader.

While the US Postal Service relied on trains to sort, move and distribute mail, passenger rail was sustainable, since people were going to the same places the mail was. The fees the railroads charged the government to move the mail more than covered the costs for passenger cars.

When mail started to be moved by trucks, to regional distribution centers, using Eisenhower's Autobahn/Interstate system, passenger rail all but died.

This antique is being propped up by Amtrak and dimwitted Dems, who still are obsessed by the population control inherent in government control of transportation.

But what about all 5 of the idiots who bought this idiot car?!

I remember years ago when a story about one of these cars you have pictured here was posted on FR and one of the commentors said something like “I’ll throw a stick in front of it and it will flip over”.

I still laugh, thinking about that post. It’s an LLLOL. It’s a Long Long LOL.

The ever rising CAFE standards do not reduce oil consumption. People drive more the better the MPG.

Hmmmm. The blog post “The Myth Of Unlimited Abiotic Oil” seems to be filled with logical fallacies that make it unconvincing. Now, the conclusions may be true, but they are not backed up with any compelling rigor.
