President Trumps Supreme Court nominee is walking into the middle of a political firestorm over his work for President George W. Bush.
Access to paperwork from Brett Kavanaughs years as a White House lawyer and staff secretary for Bush has become a lightning rod in the nomination fight.
The issue will take center stage as he sits down with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, this week.
Both senators are expected to press Kavanaugh on whether he'll support releasing all of his Bush-era documents, which they say would shed light on what he thinks about controversial matters such as terrorism policy, healthcare and executive authority.
Schumer said he intends to ask Kavanaugh directly why he isnt publicly calling for releasing the paperwork during their closed-door sit-down.
"He can't duck it. ... He should have said already that he wants them released if he's an open, fair, wonderful man, Supreme Court justice that he's trying to portray himself to be," Schumer told reporters during a weekly leadership press conference.
Kavanaughs meetings with Feinstein and Schumerexpected to take place on Monday and Tuesday, respectivelywill mark his toughest stops, so far, on his Capitol Hill charm offensive.

No problem. Mete out the records at the same rate FOIA requests have been granted and documents delivered in the Clinton email investigation. In other words, literally, over the course of the next 16 to 18 months.
What, too late for the confirmation hearings?
Aw, too bad...
Screw these bastards!!!!

Wouldn’t at least the lawyer part be privileged?
Marxist RATs keep digging their hole deeper and deeper.
SCHUMER: “Will you support the release of the documents created from your time working with the Bush White House?”
KAVANAUGH: “Ask George W. Bush. They’re his documents. Next question.”
No way they will read 12-1/2 times what obamacare was...
Should tell them to read the 250K pages they have and if they pass a 10 question test on them they can have some more documents....
