U.N. chief suggests options for improved Palestinian protection

The protection of Palestinian civilians could be improved by the deployment of U.N.-mandated armed forces or unarmed observers, a beefed-up U.N. civilian presence or expanded U.N. assistance, Secretary-General António Guterres wrote in a report on Friday.

The United Nations General Assembly requested the report in a resolution adopted in June that condemned Israel for excessive force against Palestinian civilians and denounced the firing of rockets from Gaza into Israeli civilian areas, but did not mention Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza.

The resolution asked for proposals to ensure “the safety, protection and well-being of the Palestinian civilian population under Israeli occupation, including … recommendations regarding an international protection mechanism.” […]

Armed U.N. peacekeepers or armed forces from a group of like-minded states operating under a United Nations mandate could be deployed to offer physical protection, Guterres said. This option, however, would need a Security Council mandate and the United States, a close ally of Israel, would likely wield its veto. …

Hint...it’s not the so-called Palestinians that need protection, it’s the Israelis. When was the last time an Israeli sent a burning kite or balloon into Gaza?

One - The Pali’s are terrorists

Two - They are trespassing on legitimate Israeli land, Gaza, West Bank and all.

Three - There’s plenty of space available elsewhere in the Middle East - let them go there. This is the age of ‘migrants’, isn’t it?

Just today in Israel your so called oppressed picked upon Fakestinians (never was a Palestine People), well one of these Fakers tried to stab an Israeli, thank God someone nearby had a gun and protected the almost victim by shooting the Terrorist dead.

These are criminals. There are Muslim Israelis and Muslim
members to the Israeli Parliament, so the level of discrimination in Israeli society in no way justifies killing strangers.

As usual the UN has it mixed up. It is the Israeli’s that need protection not the Palestinians.

Thanks Olog-hai. SS, different day -- the UN proposes this every few years, it's a leftie thing, I think Samantha Power proposed the same lame-brained nonsense. The only reason to introduce international forces is to obliterate the Arab muzzie terrorists who cause all the risk and danger to all in the region, plus the regimes that support them.

Stop making bombs. Stop throwing them.

Stop making missiles. Stop firing them off against Israel.

That will make the Palestinians a lot safer.

Palestinian war criminals launch hundreds of mortars, rockets and other attacks on Israel from civilian populated areas against Israeli civilian populations. If the UN fails to prevent it, their people will be killed when Israel responds, and rightly so, because they would be complicit in war crimes against a sovereign nation.

No such thing as a Palestinian.

The so-called Palestinkians never lived there in the first place. First, these people were thrown out of Arab countries. Second, the UN gave them a country which is now called Jordan. They tried to take it by force, 80K of the palestinkians were killed in the overthrow attempt. Lastly, more palestinkians live in squalor camps in Lebanon and Jordan than live in and with full citizenship of Isreal.

“No such thing as a Palestinian.”

I believe you. I have heard as much from other credible sources.

The question then becomes why has this and past administrations given them legitimacy? If what you’re saying is true (and it is), a so-called ‘two state solution’ is a bogus goal, is it not?
