A crackdown on the controversial H-1B visa intended for skilled workers has struck Indian citizens harder than other foreign nationals, with federal officials hitting them with more visa denials and demands for proof of their eligibility to work.

Your are absolutely correct. After 40 years as a chip designer ... I have trained my H1B replacement(s) multiple times
You have zero idea of what you are talking about and if I were you I would shelve any opinions I had on the subject before doing extensive research.
Your comments seriously could not be more wrong.
US companies want the H1-Bs because Indians are de facto slave labor and have no rights. Americans have rights and therefore companies which do not intend to honor those rights eschew us.
Indian citizens?
Why not?? The Guv of New York just did./s
Way back in the mid-90’s, one of my friends was a manager in IT. He and I had both been COBOL programmers and I still was one.
He told me that one day he was watching a dozen or so contract programmers working (roughly half citizens and half H1-B) and a thought came to him:
The americans are good, but the Indians are too, and they actually work a lot harder. The americans bill out at $75 an hour and the Indians at $17.50 an hour. Why do I have those Americans?
I’ve been in the IT/Engineering field for 30+ years. I watched company after company make one excuse after another as to why they off-shored, yet, not a single outcome warranted the move.
I used to ensure that I paid attention to the companies that off-shored then hit them up six months later to find they were failing miserably. I made loads of money cleaning up Indian messes.
A major reason why companies like Microsoft are failing is because they are now more than 51% Indian.
Indians only hire Indians when possible, so they have now saturated the IT field.
If anything, it is a golden opportunity to start a software company to do what these Indian companies are failing to do.
I’ve started a software company, and we’ll be launching this year. The idea came to me after watching the quality of the software from a prominent company decline after hiring nothing but Indians. Doom on them, good for me. Indians are low IQ and make the dumbest decisions, so that’s means companies that hire them fail. It is time to start American companies and stay away from the idiots from India.
END H1B AND H2B AND SEND ALL INDIANS HOME. ALL OF THEM. Trump should fulfill his campaign promise vis-a-vis India and cut off all visas and commerce until they accept return of deportees. Can’t believe he has followed through on this promise.
“The americans are good, but the Indians are too”
Then let him move his company to India and work from there. He expects to pay Indian wages but charge American prices for his work, let him work from India and be tariffed at American wage costs.
I also doubt the Indians did the quality work required. They can do brain-dead copy and paste, but software engineering is not a common capability. Like any population, there are the 5% that are intelligent, but the average Indian is a plagiarist and can only do money-see-monkey-do type of work.
VERY capable hands are guiding our ship now and by GOLLY I enjoy the scenery.
“Lack of skills and ability to perform, sweetheart. “
I see, you’re a typical liberal anti-American bigot that thinks only foreigners can do good work and Americans suck.
FU. Texas, my ass.
Disparate impact is not racism, the opinions of morons incapable of reason notwithstanding. Bout time that one was shot in the head.
Indian “Citizens” have no problem. Citizens of India do. But that is because there are several very large companies from India that made billions on controlling the H1-B program. They controlled the H1-Bs of several Indian nationals who worked in the US. They provided a workforce to American companies at rock bottom prices then they took money out of every workers paycheck. These companies controlled tens of thousands of US visas. They do lab work, quality control, light programming, and other light technical work.
I am happy to see this save labour go away in the US.
That does not match what I’ve observed here in Silicon Valley. H1B program is rife with abuse - Indian workers are hired over better qualified US citizens because the rates (even with recruiter markup) are far cheaper and they are easier to jettison for any reason. The program could be terminated without any ill effect except to force tech companies to pay US workers more competitive wages and perhaps to engage tech companies to do more STEM training.
> I’ve been hiring people in IT for 20 years. H1B’s are paid 100% or great for positions, and we’re audited twice a year to confirm that.
I don’t believe a word of that, as it completely contradicts what a legion of industry veterans, including myself, have witnessed firsthand for many many years.
Doubt you’ll find another taker here or anywhere else outside the H1-B promotion industry for that fantasy either.
LOL and thank you, CodeToad!
Well, to be fair, that’s what he did. It was a fortune 500 company and he ended up being CIO. And his company was on the bleeding edge of outsourcing programmers in large numbers. He spent a lot of time in India. He also gave lectures on the strengths and pitfalls of outsourcing.
