DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings is speaking out following the resignation of Mayor Pro-Tem Dwaine Caraway.
Caraway pleaded guilty Thursday to federal corruption charges. According to the U.S. Attorneys Office and the IRS, Caraway accepted $450,000 in bribes and kickbacks related to a scheme that could have contributed to the demise of Dallas County Schools. Mayor Rawlings spoke publicly for the first time about the news regarding Caraway Friday morning at an event at the Dallas Regional Chamber.
We work hard to make sure our city is represented well throughout Texas, throughout our country, and throughout our world, Rawlings said in front of a crowd of other local leaders. To have a blemish on it and a stain on it like this is a terrible day for us.
Rawlings said that what happened to Dwaine Caraway is an example of why the city needs to improve what he called economic inclusion.
Too often public servants that come from poor parts of our city are caught in and let themselves be caught in a trap around money, around economic inclusion, because they dont have any money, Rawlings said.
The Mayor said a persons financial upbringing isnt an excuse for crime but that economic inclusion needs to be addressed in the City of Dallas.
Caraway faces up to 10 years in prison. His sentencing date is set for mid-December.
“...public servants...”
Stop calling paid government parasites “public servants”! They serve no others but themselves! EVER!!
This phrase needs to be abolished.
Should I see that movie?
I wonder how he would defend Ray Nagin’s conduct as mayor of New Orleans (which ultimately landed him in jail)?
My wife just heard Rawlings’ statement on WBAP too and couldn’t believe it. Really disgraceful!
And creeps in politics get rich and richer every day.
“Both Caraway and Rawlings are holder’s people”
Isn’t Rawlings white?
Mayor, please explain why you were elected.
I am sure John Wylie Price just welcomed those crooks to Dallas with open arms.
They must think we are their own personal ATM machine.
If by "holder's people" you mean black, you might want to take another look at Rawlings.
Caraway is obviously the victim in all of this.
The mayor is white.
>>Isnt Rawlings white?<<
Don’t ask — I got him confused with someone else.
He just ACTS black.
I get confused easily as I get older.
Thanks for the ping.
If I NEVER hear the word “inclusion” again, it’ll be too soon!
Caraway has been a thorn in the side of Dallas politics for years. Nothing he would do or does is much of a shock.
Exactly - and being poor means being totally dishonest while being a crooked and wealthy [politician means one is just misunderstood when their own dishonesty is brought to light....not to mention he’s Black and has many reasons to fight all that evil White Privilege out there....
Current mayor of Dallas is quite white, dude.
Yeah I screwed up on that. I was thinking of Price I think.
