LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nearly two dozen people were arrested Wednesday and charged with using small aircraft to smuggle heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine over the U.S. border at the behest of one of Mexico's most notorious drug cartels, authorities said.
The arrests of 22 suspects come on the heels of a nearly three-year investigation into three drug trafficking organizations that authorities say were working on behalf of the Sinaloa cartel. The groups, which received the drugs from the cartel in northern Mexico, would then stash them in soup cans, inside hidden compartments in cars and used small aircraft — though authorities wouldn't say whether they were manned or drones — to transport the drugs over the border, officials said.
"More than seizing the drugs and the money, this investigation was able to identify the top level Mexico-based traffickers who directed the transactions and who thought they were using secure communications to commit the crimes," said Tracy Wilkison, the first assistant U.S. attorney in Los Angeles.

I remember reading that one of them had strong connections to the Chicago drug trade. Also, the Fast and Furious guns that went over to Mexico weren’t randomly distributed... there must have been favored recipients.

The House Oversight Committee released a scathing report Wednesday that accuses former Attorney General Eric Holder and his Department of Justice of covering up Operation Fast and Furious and misleading Congress’ investigation into the botched gun-running operation. The nearly 300-page report states that the Justice Department under Holder actively tried to hide the facts from the loved ones of slain Border Patrol Brian Terry – seeing his family as more of a “nuisance” than one deserving straight answers — and at times being openly hostile to them. {..snip..}
A 3 year investigation and only 59 people charged? I wouldnt count this as an astounding development. Sounds pretty mediocre to me. Wonder how many got away. The feds are notoriously incompetent esp the FBI. Thats why local cops say FBI stands for Famous But Incompetent.

What I was asking was whether or not my recollection that Sinaloa had connections to the Obama/Holder crowd was correct. Your excerpt doesn’t address that.
Rule of thumb regarding narcotics interdiction is that app. 20% is intercepted leaving app. 80% to flow freely. Great odds for the cartel, lousy odds for US.

Based on the headline, I figured they cut to the chase and arrested the government of Mexico.
