On Tuesday night, a 51-year-old man who lives in a cabin in Holy Jim Canyon was arrested in connection with the fire. Forrest Gordon Clark was taken into custody of O.C. Sheriffs deputies after he allegedly sent an email last week which read, this place will burn, according to the Orange County Register.
Of the 14 cabins in Clarks area, his is the only one that was not destroyed, the Register reports.
He was arrested on two counts of felony arson, one count of felony threat to terrorize and one count of misdemeanor resisting arrest. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
Because of the resources needed to battle the Mendocino Complex burning in Northern California now the largest wildfire in state history along with several others burning across the state, only 444 personnel were assigned to the Holy Fire as of Wednesday morning. However, at a morning briefing, officials said they are hoping to double that number soon. Ten water-dropping helicopters and seven fixed-wing aircraft were being used in the aerial attack.
Fire will continue to spread southeast and north with only limited spread to the west, the Cleveland National Forest said in a statement Tuesday night. The lack of resources for direct attack will allow the fire to spread into new areas, and align for strong head-fire runs and the potential for an Elsinore down slope event.

Just saw this turd on local news!!!
“What was he arrested for...making a prediction?”
The dude apparently had been making threats against the local volunteer fire dep’t and it’s captain... he fought with his neighbors... kind of an end-of-the-roader who didn’t get along with anyone else at the end of the road in the canyons.
These canyons are really rural, primitive places even though they are real close to the mega suburbs of SoCal. You have to be a different sort to live there, more self reliant than in the ‘burbs. But this guy was a long time problem for his neighbors.
Democrats are everywhere. You move to the boonies to escape them and damned if there isn’t one there.
Yes, the smoke is obscuring the sun here on the north coast. My son entered his custom car in a show in Reno this weekend and had to drive south 200 miles before he could head east where normally he would just take highway 299 from here...

well gee...no wonder there’s no name attached to the OP article: He/she is an idiot.
Nevertheless, that pic of his cabin portrays a cabin seemingly-prepped for a fire environment. One may have nothing to do with the other. And even if it does, it demonstrates the feasibility of having a defensible space.
We cannot dismiss the human factor in fires, but that does not diminish the need for a prepped structure in the wildland fire environment.
Red Adair don’t care ......
;)
I don’t understand - I can get into the OC Register without any problem. Lived in OC for years but left 12 years ago and I’m beginning to get the feel now for where everything is. Trabuco Canyon wasn’t a problem but getting the rest straight in my mind took some time. The fire is all on the backside of Saddleback, right? We used to camp at O’Neill (?) park...
I’ve feared for years fire down the west side of Saddleback - have lots of friends in that area and what would stop fire from reaching the freeway and going to the ocean? Well remember watching the Laguna Beach fire from Irvine in 1993...the only thing that stopped that from crossing the 405 were the agriculture fields. Fires are so tragic...
Thanks - the best way I have of keeping up with the news of the fire in Orange and Riverside counties. Very little is covered here in GA but then I don’t stay tuned long so that’s no surprise. We lived in OC for 40+ years and remember how fire news was covered practically around the clock.
Global warming is causing people to commit arson now?
I wonder if they will find a dog eared copy of Al Gore’s Book “earth in the balance” in his Cabin like the one they found in the Unibomber’s Cabin?

Aug 09, 2018 · SANTA ANA Forrest Gordon Clark, arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the still-raging Holy fire, refused to leave his jail cell for his first court appearance on Thursday, with an Orange County Superior Court commissioner saying the arraignment likely will be postponed...
“I wonder if they will find a dog eared copy of Al Gores Book earth in the balance in his Cabin like the one they found in the Unibombers Cabin?”
Probably not. This one doesn’t appear to be a reader or any sort of an activist. More like an angry neighbor from hell.
Strange contradiction in pictures on different links. He’s sitting outside in front of one door that is nothing remarkable and in another one he’s in front of a very nice looking front door. Not the same doors at all...Back door/front door - what???
Might be, I didn’t pay his cabin a lot of attention. In some shots it looks pretty nice.
Are the pictures of water at that link at Lake Elsinore?
