WASHINGTON The Trump administration is expected to issue a proposal in coming weeks that would make it harder for legal immigrants to become citizens or get green cards if they have ever used a range of popular public welfare programs, including Obamacare, four sources with knowledge of the plan told NBC News.
The move, which would not need congressional approval, is part of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller's plan to limit the number of migrants who obtain legal status in the U.S. each year.
Details of the rulemaking proposal are still being finalized, but based on a recent draft seen last week and described to NBC News, immigrants living legally in the U.S. who have ever used or whose household members have ever used Obamacare, children's health insurance, food stamps and other benefits could be hindered from obtaining legal status in the U.S.

...and Obama-care was structured to force people into it, even if they were part of self-sustaining programs.
It wrecked so much of the infrastructure and the relationship patterns in such a short time.
I assume they mean the expanded Medicaid under Obamacare
But isnt that what the Left does?
Expand welfare then call those against further expanding it hypocrites?
“four sources with knowledge” = fabricated “news” with fabricated “sources” if/until proved true ... not worthy of comment other than to note NBC has jumped on the leftist fake stream enemedia bandwagon of increasing the number of fake sources to simulate greater credibility ...
Yes! Do it!
Why yes, yes they did. And they had one!
So Trump is attempting to ensure that when you come to America, that you do not become a permanent drain on the welfare state... The audacity of it is amazing... In Canada Trudeau invited everybody and guess what... They’re coming in droves and surprise, surprise... Taxpayers are getting fed up with it... Trudeau and his government claim that the polls are wrong. Too funny.
Excellent - we want immigrants who add value to the US, net, not drainers.
Nearly every other country on Earth has the same or similar rule.

That makes sense.
The title, however, is Fake News.
Actually this is already law. Anyone who has sponsored an immigrant can recall the affidavit of Support form which states that the immigrant must have sufficient resources to avoid the us of any means tested public benefits.
That should’ve been the law of the land regardless.
Liberals who need 3rd world voters and that mentality will fume.

Well, yeah. That's the supposed reason for inviting them here. We are endlessly told they are so much more industrious and harder working than the natives.
I say we even go a step further and do what they do in Japan: require that employers pay them AT LEAST a 10% wage premium over the going rate for people with similar positions. Then, be responsible for their repatriation once it is decided that they are no longer worth said premium.
Back when this country was sane, sponsorship required the sponsor be financially responsible, including providing them with housing and the living expenses to survive until such time as they got a job and became independent. Most of the sane countries in the world still oberate that way.
Today, sponsorship only requires that you pick them up at the airport, and sign them up for public housing, EBT cards and all the other trappings of a newly minted ward of the state.
Bingo. There’s a denial buried in the article.

You know what seriously limits citizenship...abortion.
Hmmmmmm. I have personal knowledge that it is already being done to locate overstays and deport them.
I am “torn” on this considering that I am a legal immigrant to Switzerland. I am required to pay the same taxes as any other person - to include high health insurance. If, after many years of paying such taxes, I were to loose my job, take unemployment until I got a new one and then continued to pay taxes - I see no reason to deny citizenship on that basis alone.
The inclusion of Obamacare is also “troubling” as many were more or less forced into it - holding that against them would seem unfair.
OTOH, if someone were to currently be on benefits - or as the Swiss put it “for a longer period and in considerable amounts” - these would be grounds to deny citizenship or even revoke residency. That is fair as it allows for the unforeseen.
People who add something to the USA should be welcomed. It's those who enter illegally and leech off the taxpayer who should be sent home promptly, without any legal delays.
