An armed bystander shot a man who open-fired on a back to school event at a Titusville park following a fistfight, police said.
The shooting occurred at Isaac Campbell Park on South Street shortly after 5:20 p.m. when the shooter, whom police have not identified, returned to the park after a fistfight and began firing.
A bystander licensed to a carry a firearm then shot the shooter, who was flown to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The bystander who shot the suspect waited for officers and has been fully cooperative with the investigation, police said.
After consulting with the State Attorney’s office, detectives do not expect to file charges against the bystander since his actions were within the law, according to the preliminary investigation, police said.

Every single bystander with no extra holes in them needs to put up the money for this person’s criminal/civil defense.
I live in Titusville. It is great little city.
I have been to this event several times. The poor kids come to get donated back to school supplies.
The sheriff here encourages all CWP holders to carry their guns.

Thankfully I never went exploring over that way.. I had fun at the NASA center though ;^)
Even got a pic of a baby ‘gator at the center (was about 3 feet long).
He had hoped for a boost to his sagging career. Something to make F-bomb laced speeches about, but the shooter didn’t kill anyone, and got shot by a gun owner, so that’s that.
