Los Angeles council proposes banning fur sales, like West Hollywood and San Francisco

Los Angelians eager to fill their fall wardrobes with fur may want to stock up now, as city council members have introduced a proposal banning its sale.

If the measure passes, the City of Angles would be the largest American metropolis to bar the sale and production of the controversial product.

On August 1, over a dozen animal welfare activists met with Councilman Paul Koretz at City Hall to discuss the issue, the L.A. Times reports. If the proposal, written by Koertz and fellow council member Bob Blumenfield, were to pass, L.A. would join West Hollywood, Berkeley and San Francisco in instating such policies.

San Francisco’s legislation is set to take effect Jan. 1 2019, following the Board of Supervisors' unanimous decision to ban the sale of fur in March.

“The bottom line is that humans do not need to wear the fur of another animal. Not in Los Angeles, not in any other city… To continue to allow the sale of fur is to condone violence,” Brian Ruppenkamp a member of an activist grou called Los Angeles Animal Save, said at the Wednesday meeting.

Since it never gets all that cold, in those 2 cities, this really doesn't matter; except that it's really stupid and just more lefty garbage.

The last time "SUMPTUARY LAWS" were put in place, in Europe ( I don't think we ever had them in America ) was any 100s of years ago, to keep the hoi polli from aping their "betters". And yes, they DID regulate what kind of fur only the Pope, Kings & Queens, and aristos could wear, besides the kinds of cloth and trimmings, as well.

This is the reverse of those laws. LOL

Considering the location, or the "leather culture?"

The ban will grow to include all living things. That is until the realization that we are up to our noses in cows that contribute CO2 to our air. “Kill ‘em all” will be the cry in the streets.

A mink is a member of the weasel family. After seeing what they do to chickens, I applaud people who wear mink coats. They probably had to club about 200 of the nasty creatures in the head to make a full length coat.

It also creates a lot of employment from the guy who sells feed to the one who clubs them in the head to the one who tans their fur to those who sew the coat and so on . . . which is why they are so expensive.

Liberals on these blue area city councils have to be the biggest busybodies in the world. All they do is look for things to ban.

Much of the fur is the livelihood of trappers in Alaska. This is their only source of money they need to sustain their existence in the remote areas they live. The animals not only provide a source of fur but also a source of protein in their diet.

Where in the constitution did the people grant the power to cities to ban fur sales? Or salt? Or sugary drinks? Or office cafeterias? Power mad totalitarians is what they are. There is never any aspect of society which they think can not be made better by the applicaton of coersion.

Till they found out how fur and for that matter how meat is ‘made’. Yes muffy meat isnt manufactured with those nice plastic shells with plast covering it.

I have killed and process my own meat myself. Not something I do all the time. Just during hunting season. Never thought twice about shooting, evicerating and taking sharp knives and saws to a side of venison or any other animal.

FUR. It’s warm.

The creator gave us all these nice furry, and tasty critters to use. I plan on using them.

There seems a connection between banning furs and meat and letting insane people wander your streets and $h!tting in the roads.
