Trump 'looking into' 3D plastic guns: 'Doesn't seem to make much sense'

President Trump said Tuesday that he is "looking into" 3D plastic guns, adding that he had spoken to the National Rifle Association (NRA) about them.

"I am looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public," he tweeted. "Already spoke to NRA, doesn’t seem to make much sense!"

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump I am looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public. Already spoke to NRA, doesn’t seem to make much sense! 7:03 AM - Jul 31, 2018 27.7K 17.7K people are talking about this

The Trump administration has faced criticism over the issue after the Defense Department settled with a gun rights activist last month over the distribution of 3D firearm blueprints. The downloadable plans range from rudimentary handguns to rifles similar to an AR-15. The plans can be used by anyone with a 3D printer and minimal outside materials to create an untraceable firearm.

The president's tweet comes a day after several states filed a lawsuit seeking to block the sale of the blueprints, calling them a threat to national security.

“These downloadable guns are unregistered and very difficult to detect, even with metal detectors, and will be available to anyone regardless of age, mental health or criminal history. If the Trump Administration won’t keep us safe, we will," said Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson (D), who represents one of the eight states suing the Trump administration.

Well, Trump is wrong here.

Any other writings he’d like to ban?

His basic instincts are anti-gun. He needs to be educated from time to time.

Trump is simply diffusing the issue. Read the Dailywire article above.

Plastic guns ignite liberal meltdown.

Only thing that makes them more enraged is Trump trolling fhem.

Gun control is as dead as censorship.

I don’t think it matters very much. And here’s why:

Legal or illegal, the technology now exists. And it’s very, very easy to propagate whether the government likes it or not. Should, God forbid, the government continue its slouch towards tyranny, it’s now a simple and easy matter to obtain the tools of self-defense.

Who writes this drivel? The lawsuit that was won had nothing to do with the US Defense Department. The plaintiff was “Defense Distributed”, a private company. It was a 1st Amendment case. It is now settled law.

Agree with you here. How many times have people tried to stop the oncoming tide.

As a teacher, do you think cell phones help in the classroom?
Now we see that they are so common that teachers have no chance to outlaw them. The result is that kids are distracted in the classroom with nothing we can do about it. Technology marches on.

I personally see nothing wrong with this technology and untraceable plastic guns do not bother me. (They apparently are not very reliable, which would keep me from using one although having a one shot self protection device that does not set off magnatometers seems like something that law abiding people could take advantage of in certain circumstances.

Criminals? Well show me when they ever bothered with the restrictions that everyone else contends with?

Liberalism’s attempts to throttle freedom is as futile as King Canute trying to hold back the tide.

No offense but you do realize that the “gun” is not all plastic right? The 3d printed guns are just a component of the overall firearm. They are Just like a Glock or every other plastic fantastic pistol. The internals are all metal. The slide and the barrel are still metal. I promise you they will set off any metal detectors. One of the many problems in all this is the deliberate introduction of misleading arguments. 3d printed guns are the exact same as one you can buy in the store. The benefit to them is that individuals legally allowed to build one do not “have “ to register them unless or until they try to sell them.

So the lunatic left in the media wants a ban on 3D printing...

Maybe we should ban some other inventions like... The wheel, nuclear warheads or how about the internet or the printing press.

There are seriously lame individuals delivering the news and the fact that ‘you can’t put a genie back in a bottle’ has apparently eluded them.

I 3D print on PLA plastics. Very brittle plastic. I would never attempt to print one. Seems too dangerous of explosion

No, it doesn't. That's why it's a non issue. The Democrats hyperventilate over it just to score political points with their ignorant stupid followers, but there really is no issue here.
