Equally troubling is the further development of what we might call a two-tier America, based on immigration status and economic opportunity.

As an American citizen I have certain rights an privileges that a illegal alien does not. Don't like the American system don't sneak into our country.

My wife and I are planning to tell Caliph-phony-a to take their “REAL ID” and shove it. Her license is up for renewal soon and mine doesn’t renew until 2020, by which time the new regs will most likely be in effect.

We will be renewing our passport instead and use that to travel.

A wall would have eliminated such a problem. Imagine that - everyone in the country would be a citizen, or at least there legally. What a concept.

My license used to divide me between documented and undocumented. Now I have to go get a new one that divides me because they gave all the illegals a driver’s license.

The author seems to think this is a bad thing.

The real ID real question is 1) will motor voter laws be changed if your are note getting “real ID?” and 2) will jury duty roles select from “real” and “un-real” license lists?

Will ICE or conservative groups be allowed access to voter roles (political parties can now) and lists of “un-real” licensees?

This could be great fun to watch.

This mandate has been around for more than a decade. Many states already comply....those who are slow have a large illegal problem....eg California

I’m a little confused. What is it about being here illegally do these people not get?

Do they understand the difference between legal and illegal? Do they understand the difference between American citizen and foreign invaders? Real compassion would be helping the illegals return home so they can Make Their Own Country Great one day.

Oh; and fer cryin’ out loud - fix the damn anchor baby loophole so at least one parent must be an American citizen for a plopped out baby is one.

A legal citizen carping how it might be inconvenient for illegal invaders to obtain ID that has a high rate of confidence that the bearer is a citizen....

I seem to recall, several years ago, that a proposed universal ID card for all Americans was STRONGLY rejected on the grounds that we are free and having a mandatory ID was anathema to American citizens.

Guess that objection no longer applies, huh? Instead of a card for everyone, now we limit the intrusion to drivers’ licenses?

It is sad we’ve come to this point, but the separation between citizen and non-citizen is getting pretty murky and needs to be clarified. I guess this Read ID is a solution, of sorts. But I’m not sure on this one.

Meanwhile, from NYS, get a load of this...

New York offers three types of documents

I just use my passport.

And I hope to God security types in the other 49 realize that NYS licenses aren't all Real ID.

And the idiot authors think there is some reason why we should NOT be distinguished between the “undocumented” and the “documented” - meaning illegal and legal?????

The answer is to send the illegals home.

Just think of all that infrastructure and new schools, etc., we won’t have to build. All the entitlement programs we’ll be able to cut in half almost instantly. The end to worries about automation putting too many low-skill workers out of a job.

While we’re at it, our student test scores will shoot up dramatically. Our incredibly expensive Spanish and other language accommodations will be cut dramatically. We’ll of course have much less crime. We will share more of a common culture again. We will be able to take back the small cities that have been more or less gutted out by illegals and make them appealing places to live again. And on and on. Sure, our GDP will drop some, as we have fewer consumers within the country. But we can adjust to that.
