Vice Condemns Comedy Classic, Insults Fans: 'Animal House Will Never Die...Should It?'

From the “Liberals Spoil Everything” department, where everything is a problem, here’s Vice writer Harry Cheadle: “Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of 'Animal House' by Tossing It in the Trash -- Drunken frat boys don't seem so charming anymore, and the film's gender politics are 'xxxxx'd' beyond repair.”

From his 2018 perch, Cheadle tears into the offensive, vulgar, and extremely hilarious college comedy hit for its lack of wokeness:

It’s difficult to imagine what it was like when Animal House dropped into theaters on July 28, 1978, exactly 40 years ago. It landed like the opening of a revolution and spread through the country like a virus, eventually grossing over $500 million in today's dollars and becoming part of the DNA of every campus comedy for the next few decades....Animal House will never die. The question is, should it?

After listing the antics of John Belushi’s character, Cheadle quickly got to the more “problematic” scenes, while insulting fans.

For God’s sake don’t tell this guy Blazing Saddles is on Amazon Prime. I watched it yesterday for the first time in many years. Talk about politically incorrect!

I did as well. The ten cent toll booth in the middle of nowhere is just as funny now as then.

Lampoon was more libertarian than liberal.

Another scene that probably will get expunged is the original “Vacation” scene in East St. Louis.

Had to order “Song of the South” from Europe. A delightful and entertaining movie. Disgusting that it can’t be shown in America.

List of movies, tv shows prohibited in the U.S. :
Song of the South
Birth of a Nation
McHale’s Navy
Hogan’s Heros
soon to be prohibited: Gone With The Wind
Red Skelton because of hobo, drunk, mentally weak portrayals

I have kind of a weird sense of humor so take this recommendation with a grain of salt. Check out “Nathan For You” on Hulu. It’s very uncomfortable at times just because people are so gullible. The “Ghost Realtor” episode is the one to watch. I haven’t laughed so much in ages.

But you can’t hold a whole movie responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn’t we blame the whole movie system? And if the whole movie system is guilty, then isn’t this an indictment of our entertainment institutions in general? I put it to you—isn’t this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to Animal House, but we’re not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

The song 'shama lama ding dong' was written as a spoof doo woop song for the movie but it is a great song!

“I read the whole article and missed the part where Donald Sutherland, as the professor, shagged Pinto’s girlfriend.”

Pretty sure that was Otter’s girlfriend.

The society that Animal House celebrates is the way things should be

The PC existance is not America.

I lived in an Animal House and savored every minute of it. We all graduated and made the America the pussys are trying to eradicate

In September I will meet with my buddies and tell all the old tales again even though it has been 54 years since we lived together.

Cheadle must have hung out in college with Clayton, Sidney, Mohammed and Jugdish.

“Ah the irony. The “National Lampoon” style movies like Animal House and Caddyshack were considered liberal movies at the time. The irreverent, drunk, pot smoking liberal kids against the establishment. The establishment was made out to be stupid, overbearing and perhaps even racist. Sexual libertinism was a hallmark of these liberal movies and portrayed as a good thing, juxtaposed against mocking the sexual “repression” of their parent’s generation. Now we’ve come full circle.”
