How a country commits suicide

I came across this quote (here) presented in the context of what is going on today in South Africa (about which our Lamestream Media are conspicuously silent), but see if it doesn't "resonate" even for those of us in countries that haven't yet sunk quite so far:

Oh, mandelastan. I believe we had a poster for quite a while (Katherine Buckles?) who lived somewhere in Africa and witnessed first hand and reported what happens when the corrupt govt takes from success and gives to failure. Doesn't quite work they way they wanted. I believe she left there. Anyone?

“When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that, My Dear Friend, is about the end of any nation.”

Every person who endorses socialism is either planning on being one of the takers or one of the ruling class.

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that, My Dear Friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

This needs to be added, IMHO. ;)

Based on even a brief review of history, I believe there is empirical evidence that governments cause of almost all of the division and strife in the world. Other woes such a criminal behavior are enhanced by governments doing all sorts of foolish things besides what they should be doing, which is protecting its people, from crime, invasion, and natural disasters.

the violent and shameful history of mankind is caused by the idiots in government

Even Better:

I’ve visited SA three times...the most recent visit having been in 2016.Of course that doesn’t make me an expert but what I’ve seen suggests that the country has enormous potential...at least partially because it is,by far,the most highly developed country in Africa.

I worked for 50, the left took more and more until I just gave up. The government rewards crooks, look how much politicians steal and are never punished.

Look at the Democrat and Republican parties. Crooks. Trump is our last and only hope

I am almost inclined to to the simplistic idea that government is the cause of the world’s misery. I know that’s not true, but the growth of government as an end rather than a means surely is.
