This is how the drug war ends. Juries, empowered to think for themselves, let obviously guilty defendants walk free.

And, at some point, the government realizes there is more money to be made off regulation and taxes.
The feline equivalent is catnip and our kitty really enjoys a pinch of it here and there. But she doesn't drive a car or vote either.

i thought an ounce was distribution. Every state is different but a pound should certainly qualify.
What was his illness? Anxiety, depression, afraid to get up in morning and face the world?

More like this is how the rule of law ends. When juries start judging guilt or innocence based on how they feel, the rule of law is dead. Next, they will base these decisions on political affiliation.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Or is it a pound of prevention..? Anyway, I agree.

The war on marijuana is a failure. Using force to keep people from consuming this plant, has not worked, and will never work.
I think it’s time to decriminalize it, and let the states tax and regulate it in a fashion that is acceptable to the people.

Hopefully it spreads to other obviously unjust prosecutions.

You mean, obviously innocent defendants. This person did zero harm and punishing him would be manifestly unjust. Even the inconvenience and intimidation of charges and trial is unjust in this case.
A person harming no one should be left alone - period.

‘Juries, empowered to think for themselves, let obviously guilty defendants walk free.’
are you seriously of the opinion that this has never happened before in the history of this country’s jury history...? and are you personally pissed off that the guy isn’t going to be incarcerated for a ‘crime’ that affected absolutely nobody...?

Misunderstandings on the part of the left again. If you are for freedom you are probably for Trump and for relaxing anti-marijuana laws. If this is a shock to you, you might have a poor understanding of our Constitution.

Jury Nullification. The ultimate power that juries have that no judge or court will ever inform a jury that they have that power.
Let it be known that you support jury nullification during voire dire and you will be dismissed for cause so fast your head will spin lest you pollute the jury pool. I have done it and it works. I actually became aware of its employment when I watched an ADA voire dire a prospective juror who also happened to be a managing partner of a law firm.
He also skillfully “sliced and diced” the ADA’s skill at conducting the voire dire. That was really entertaining.
