If socialist candidates are the future of the Democratic Party, that future won’t be too bright, if the findings of a new Hill.TV/Harris X American Barometer poll hold true.
Seventy-six percent of respondents in a recent survey said they would not vote for a “socialist candidate,” while 24 percent of those polled said they have no problem with the hypothetical candidate.
Those results conflict with Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez’s prediction that young politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — a dues-paying member of New York City’s chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America — represent his party’s “future.”
Ocasio-Cortez beat Rep. Joe Crowley, the fourth-ranking Democrat, in a June primary.
Other primary candidates, like Maine Democratic Senate candidate Zak Ringelstein, who is challenging Sen. Angus King, are running as Democratic Socialists.
Yet not all Democrats are thrilled with this trend.
In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal earlier in July, former Democratic vice presidential candidate Joseph Lieberman cautioned his party about turning too far left.
“The policies Ms. Ocasio-Cortez advocates are so far from the mainstream, her election in November would make it harder for Congress to stop fighting and start fixing problems,” Lieberman wrote.
The Hill.TV/HarrisX poll was conducted between July 21-22 and sampled 1,001 American voters.

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.
The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:
Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you’ve been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.
First, I’ll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I’m the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]
Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.
I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.
I will not weaponize space.
I will slow our development of future combat systems.
And I will institute an independent “Defense Priorities Board” to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.
Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.
You know where I stand. I’ve fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don’t switch positions or make promises that can’t be kept. I don’t posture on defense policy and I don’t take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

The younger population have been left intentionally blind, deaf and dumb about the dangers of Socialism.
That's one of the biggest reasons the Socialists took over our education system. It's a known fact that you don't fight against a threat..... if you don't recognize it AS a threat.

I met many of them first-hand. He was basically messiah-like in their eyes. Knowing what’s coming to the world, it was really unnerving.
Blind devotion to a guy none of them knew. Nor did they know anything about him. They just knew they loved him.
Mind-boggling.
Reminds me of “Manchurian Candidate” the 2004 version. The guy at the boarding house is watching the politician (the Manchurian Candidate in the movie) and he says “Don’t you just love this guy?”. It was obviously intended to push liberal ideas BUT the liberals put forth their own Manchurian Candidate in 2008.
And pimped by Al Franken who made a brief appearance in that movie.
Yup the media will cover for her.
My suspicion is that most Americans cannot quite define socialism or a socialist, but they DO KNOW they aren't good.
I had that exact same question pop into my head when I read that same line.
Three words: LIBERAL WHITE GUILT.

I still believe that Republicans should label Democrats as Democrat Socialists at every single opportunity. They should go out of their way to repeat that (or Socialist Democrats) at every single opportunity and then some. Make a point of triggering every lib who does not agree. The goal would be to state that phrase in the media 2,500,000 times between now and November.
Could they identify it if it hit them upside the head? Doubtful.

On an aside, it appears the Progressive car of choice was the Suburu Forrester/Outback, then it became the Honda Prius; I’ve seen a big wave of Honda Fit socialists (gay nation stickers, recycling, mother earth, peace symbols)...I think it is now the Honda Fit.
