During his commencement speech at Harvard, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg called for exploring a system of wealth distribution known as "universal basic income."

Under basic income, all citizens would receive a standard amount of money each month to cover basic expenses like food, rent, and clothes. Advocates say the system is one of the surest ways to lift people from poverty, since it would provide immediate assistance with no strings attached.

I thought it would be a good time to review Zuckerberg's economic policy since all these libs know it all.

The truth is that they're delusional. Nothing is free and, sooner or later, somebody has to pay.

Using Alaska for an example is very deceitful or totally ignorant. Citizens of Alaska get money but it's a far different situation from other states.

And there was talk of this guy running for president?

Question—

Does the universal basic income proposal replace all the existing public assistance programs?

Or is this intended to be in addition to, and over and above, all the social safety net/public assistance programs we already provide for the poor?

I keep waiting for these guys to put their money where their mouths are and start a Universal Basic Income Program on their own. They have the organization and the bank account. They could select a area, city or state and start sending out checks.

You have to wonder why they don't.

It is a real puzzle.

The poverty level will simply be adjusted to the lowest income level, since someone will always be richer.

This is basically attempting to tax people into prosperity.

Its impossible.

Its just pure socialism. Where does the money come from? Its pure socialism.

I’ve always wondered; when you deploy universal basic income which is supposed to cover food, rent, etc - what do you do when rents double overnight as everyone rushes to get their own place? Do you have to seize private property first through ‘rent control’ to limit what can be charged? And when meat prices go through the roof since more people have money to buy it, presidential price controls?

It always requires more government intervention and control for any liberal program.

He’s probably right—for a while. But it will certainly drag all people down towards poverty at a faster rate than it raises up the lazy and stupid out of poverty.

Socialism does not create shared prosperity. It creates shared misery.
