“Advocates say the system is one of the surest ways to lift people from poverty, “ Hogwash. Pure unadulterated crap.

Question—

Does the universal basic income proposal replace all the existing public assistance programs?

Or is this intended to be in addition to, and over and above, all the social safety net/public assistance programs we already provide for the poor?

This is basically attempting to tax people into prosperity.

Its impossible.

Its just pure socialism. Where does the money come from? Its pure socialism.

He’s probably right—for a while. But it will certainly drag all people down towards poverty at a faster rate than it raises up the lazy and stupid out of poverty.

Socialism does not create shared prosperity. It creates shared misery.

I have volunteered extensively with homeless ministries for over 25 years and all the successful programs teach the people self reliance and the importance of work, even if it is only doing chores in the shelter as they “work” their way off the streets. Something for nothing is one of the worst things for a person’s sense of self worth. Anyhoo.

Noted.

Take any group of employees that earn the same salary. Over time some will succeed, and others will be up to their ears in debt, despite always receiving the same amount per year.

Some are good stewards of their money and time, while others put their priorities elsewhere, and continue to consume, that which is not a need, but a want. They have no savings, and must always possess the latest and greatest.

If a minimum income were provided, prices of basic necessities would increase in price.

Example: If the minimum wage was increased to $100 per hour, can you imagine the price of that hamburger produced by the $100 per hour employee?
