A Trader Joe’s employee, who died during a hostage situation over the weekend, was killed by LAPD gunfire, Chief Michael Moore said Tuesday at a news conference.
Ballistics tests show that a bullet fired from a Los Angeles police officer’s firearm struck and killed Melyda Corado, 27, during a shootout with the alleged hostage taker at the Silver Lake supermarket Saturday, Moore said.

I am not very accurate with a handgun at the distance shown in the video. I’m surprised the cop took those shots.

I doubt it. We’ve seen cops high-five after shooting innocents. I guarantee you his buddies said, “At least we go home alive. That’s what matter.”
from other online news reports, the impression i get is that the manager was shot just around the time that the suspect entered the building, not when he left, and so that would have been a considerable time beforehand. This report gives what seems to be a mistaken impression that the shot that killed the manager happened as the suspect was leaving the building. I only wanted to point out that this report is actually a bit ambiguous in regards to the timeline of the fatality vis a vis the suspect exiting the building.
The gunman from the beginning said he wanted to surrender even though he held us at gunpoint.
He asked for the handcuffs to be thrown into the store so he could handcuff himself and walk out.
As it turned out, he cuffed himself and had the hostages walk close to him as he came out so the police would not shoot.
It was very much like when the police tank pulled up, he had us all sit together, touching so that if the police shot from the tank it would insure us as well as him,.
I would be imho the last guy to defend police in a bad shoot. however, i also don’t think it is realistic to expect zero friendly fire fatalities in war or in police actions. fr cop bashers: what am i missing?
Most of the LAPD people I have met have very nice. One I met the day of the hostage taking was a jerk but they are mostly nice guys.
Like the rest of the country, the LAPD recruits men leaving the military.Their training facilities in LA are kinda luxurious at the LA Police academy located in parklands ... with coffee shops and lots off perks.
This ‘bulk-shooting’ mentality amazes me as well. Last year, I was looking at German police statistics from 2011. The German cops fired a total of 85 rounds (for the entire year, across the entire country) in active situations. Forty-nine of these were warning shots. The rest? Six folks dead and 15 wounded.
We all know he was injured when he came in the store. He was bleeding from head to toe.
Also, the police shot him in the arm before he ran into the store.
I half expected and feared this conclusion. Very very sad. The bad guy will be charged for this death, which is fine. He tried to kill people, and risked other’s lives to protect his own.
The cop that shot her will carry this mark on their conscience for life.

It was meant to be. I also find offensive the fact that cops can get away with murder. All cops need to be held to a higher standard, but the inverse is true. I don't dislike all cops, just the bad ones. For instance, I hold the California Highway Patrol in very high esteem, as the majority of their officers are consummate professionals of the highest caliber.
So, multiply by a factor of 100 or so, then tell us how many “comparatively” the polizie shot.

No kidding! I never knew we had so many upstanding retired police officers here, maybe they can donate their time and vast knowledge to the various agencies and get all in line! I am sick of the conga line of cop haters, spit.

Likely wrong. Felony Murder rule. Predicate felony - kidnapping. Asportation should be satisfied by making the victims move to sit around him, at least if I was prosecuting. Some states require a substantial distance - liberal California may follow that rule, in which case I'll come up with another theory since he threatened a protected species, cops.
Normally I would be the first to bash these officers for reckless conduct, but in this case I agree with what they did, it is very tragic and if I was her Family I would be looking for a quick and quiet settlement from the city and probably would NOT have any ill feelings to the Police.
