Butina is a suspected covert Russian spy. She is a Russian national who was in the U.S. on a student visa, enrolled at American University in Washington, D.C. She received her graduate degree from the university in May.

She's known for her pro-gun activism and founded a Russian gun rights group in Moscow.

The 29-year-old grew up in a modest apartment building in the Siberian city of Barnaul, closer to the Mongolian and Kazakh borders than Moscow.

She developed an interest in high-level politics after she attended a special camp for young political hopefuls run by the pro-Kremlin United Russia party, Konstantin Emeshin, founder of the School of Real Politics in Barnaul, told The Associated Press. Butina received her first degree from that school.

Why was she arrested?

Butina was arrested on July 15 on suspicions she was in the U.S. acting as a covert foreign agent for Russia. She is accused of attempting to infiltrate multiple organizations in the U.S. at the direction of an unnamed senior Kremlin official in a years-long campaign.

The DOJ has stated this arrest is not directly from the Special Prosecutor's investigation (yeh, we believe that).

The Leftist trolls some time back tried to tie this to the NRA. NRA looked at records and found that over many years there was less than $2,000 donated to them from Russia. (not stated whether US citizens donated. But there was one life membership paid by one Russian oligarch) So to say it was a strong connection is pure BS.

I suspect this is similar. Not that Russians would not want to find way around the sanctions, but there is no evidence of involvement in colluding with Trump campaign or administration.

Looks like more noise against Trump is the intent. But none the less, she is still in jail. And has continued to state the charges are false.

Here is a Reuters article about this:

Exclusive - Accused Russian agent Butina met with U.S. Treasury, Fed officials

https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-usa-russia-butina-exclusive/exclusive-accused-russian-agent-butina-met-with-u-s-treasury-fed-officials-idUKKBN1KC0DE

There are things in the Reuter's article that I don't believe are correct.

I suppose she’s not as good looking as the Russian female spy Big Media fawned over that the Fraud couldn’t send back to Russia fast enough.

Communist/Authoritarian regimes tend to promote prostitution by women.

Communists see no immorality in prostitution. Fidel Castro bragged about the prostitutes in Cuba.

He called them the best educated prostitutes in the world.

I pity anyone caught up in the US judicial system, either as a defendant or as a litigant. It is unimpressive to say the least.

Wanna bet that there are dozens or even hundreds of Chinese and Iranian and Saudi nationals walking free in this country who are doing the same kind of stuff that this woman was doing?

I saw nothing there that surprised me.

Regardless of what she was doing, she did not affect the election. She did not compromise Trump’s campaign.

When the FBI 1st floated the original list of Russian Twitter account charged, I looked at my history and 2 were there with exchanges. Nothing about the election, in fact nothing about anything except normal conservative perspective. So, as a consequence I discount the impact of this. Those 2 accounts did have Russian flags on the home page bio. One is still active and is in Montana. The other appears to no longer be active and might have been in Russia.

I have no doubt Russia tries to infiltrate the US.

Right now, I am not sure if I trust Russian accounts more or less than some of the top DOJ and FBI we have. That is a horrible statement.

Who had the most affect on the US elections in 2016? No doubt the Deep State vermin.

So, I’m sort of shrugging this off.

I think it is very important to make whatever deal we can make with Russia in the Middle East. At the same time acknowledging what Russia really is.

Ask yourself, Do I trust Russia, more or less than our NATO ally Turkey? Imagine that even being a thought.

“I have no doubt Russia tries to infiltrate the US.”

The USSR, the Russians, have been infiltrating the US since the 1950’s. Read “Masters of Deceit” by J. Edgar Hoover. I read it years ago when in LE and passed it on to those in the department. I believe all of us read the book. They have had remarkable success. But the Chinese have been more successful. The fact they have stolen all our industrial and military secrets of any interest is proof enough. Living in a free society makes us easy targets.

She’s accused of “being a Russian agent” (whatever that means), not “spying”. Spying means violating the Espionage Act, taking classified government information from a secure location, and putting it into an unsecured location. Like a server in the basement. Her “crimes” seem to be meeting people and talking to them.
