Disruption, Consolidation, Uncertainty: Welcome to Hollywood's Age of Anxiety
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | July 18, 2018 | Stephen Galloway

Posted on 07/18/2018 9:23:57 PM PDT by DoodleBob

Amid unprecedented tumult in entertainment (and the world), The Hollywood Reporter talks to the stars, executives and rank-and-file workers struggling to cope, the experts soothing nerves and the fortunate few who are finding peace in troubled times: "You learn to not let your stress control you."

(snip)

Speak to writers, producers, actors and executives — speak, in fact, to the whole chain of employees toiling across the film, television and music industries, as THR did — and you'll have trouble finding people who won't admit to heightened feelings of stress, anxiety and depression, three interlinked mental-health issues that have escalated over the past decade in the entertainment sector. "I'm always having anxiety," says Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman (Crash), echoing dozens of others interviewed. "Stress seems to happen every day in Hollywood. There's anxiety all around."

At no point in this article do they suggest that frequent and public 2-minute hates directed half (or more) of the country is causing trouble. Nah, it's all Netflix's fault and we can fix this with more meditation centers...that's the ticket.

We are a problem solving species. Their problem is that they have no real problems.

So they invent them.

Since these invented problems have no solutions they have "stress and anxiety".

They are destroying their own industry with their liberal propoganda, like the NFL is destroying football. Suffer, morons. Only libtards can be this stupid and be continually mystified as to what the problem is.

I’ve been saying that about the whole country for many years. In the scheme of things every problem has been solved. So little things become huge problems.

This doesn’t seem to be any different from the same stress anxieties that have plagued Hollywood since its earliest days.

I qualify this by admitting I don't watch television and most movies, but this article complains about factors that should be making this decade a golden age for producing good movies and television. There are more people seeing television as a viable way to tell stories that are longer than a movie, so we get good/great stories like the Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, a new Dune series, etc. There is really no better time in history to do good tv work.

On the other hand, movies are being turned into crap by the needs of the international markets, but the answer to that may be to not try to make everything an international hit.

Give them all an enema. It worked in “Daracula Dead and Loving it”. This will require the moving of their heads out of the way during the procedure.

The tv network shows are not very good overall. Same for Netflix and Amazon.

Cookie cutter for the most part. I cut cable when it rose to $144 some 2.5 years ago and saved thousands since and now have internet and Sling tv at $42 and $30 (just raised $5) respectively which is cable plus more channels and more shows to choose from. I have Netflix and Amazon too.

There are shows to watch but boy they are spread thin. Also too much propaganda and hate from hollywood. My suggestion is to be entertaining instead. The writers and spec readers outta look at the old shows and see what worked (not copy as the spark won’t be in the copied show) and read some books on the world. Many stories there to write about.

Stress? The overpaid mannequins and execs bitch and moan about stress?

Those crybabies should be on their knees everyday thanking G-D ALMIGHTY that dead White guys like Edison, Marconi, Vladimir Zworykin, Philo Farnsworth, David Sanroff, Jack Warner, Disney and others came along when they did. If if weren't for their inventions, business expertise and talents that made show biz the entertainment industrial complex it is today they'd be in the same situations as their counterparts over a century ago. In someone's alleyway literally singing for their supper. Travelling from town to town in minstrel shows hoping to make enough to keep from starving. Standing on a soap box in a town square babbling inchorently while being looked upon as the village idiots they are. Or locked up and forgotten about in some insane asylum.
