Barclay, a transgender person who identifies as neither male nor female and thus uses the pronoun they, was commissioned on Sunday as the first non-binary member of the clergy in the United Methodist Church.
The United Methodist Church is one of the largest denominations in America, falling behind only the Catholic Church and the Southern Baptist Convention. The mainline Protestant denomination has been bitterly divided over sexuality and gender identity: Its official rules say clergy must either be celibate or in heterosexual marriages, and can perform only such marriages, but American bishops have ordained gay and transgender clergy before, and clergy have conducted same-sex marriages.
In the Northern Illinois Conference, where Barclay was commissioned Sunday [June 4, 2017], Bishop Sally Dyck said in a statement, While Ms journey over the last few years has included gender identity, all of those who were commissioned or ordained on Sunday have been on some kind of journey that has brought them to new places of faith, life and relationships. Likewise, I hope the church will find itself at a new place in the near future when it comes to full inclusion.

This is Abomination.
God is not mocked. Vengeance is His. He will repay.
As a Methodist i have been following along. We lose ground to the leftists with every conference. our Parrish are talking among ourselves as to what to do. a good many want to split with the UM and go our own way but many have simply left and gone over to the(Southern) Baptist church. It is heart wrenching to watch this.
You are conflating organized religion with belief in god. They are mutually exclusive. “Every man his own priest”.
Complete with tattoos.
Total “degenerate”.
And was this a guy or girl? Can’t tell what the baseline is!
Of course they did. BUT, is it disabled (or differently abled?)
I gave up on the Methodist Church many years ago.
I’ve left.
The blasphemy is too terrible to associate with
Pray for the remaining churches and Christians still within the denomination
Another IIRC, I had, until the last 10 years or so, always thought of Presbyterians as being somewhat more conservative in the theology - though obviously not conservatively evangelical in their outlook. Again, does this sound right?
Decades ago, there was a split in the Presbyterian Church when the PCUSA lurched liberal. There were two breakaways, the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) and the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA). Both are solidly conservative.
As for the Methodists, the only branch separate from the UMC and AME that I know of are the Free Methodists (Winona Lake), but they broke off back around the Civil War over slavery.
Would be more accurate to use the pronoun it!
Everything from Acts 1 through Revelation 22 is a chronicle of the Church. The Body of Christ. Or — per Matthew 16:19 -— did Christ build his “nothing”?
Did so today with our online AMERICA Prayer Vigil here at FR, and also with my real-life prayer group. My real life group also prayed for you personally for healing from this sadness. God has a use for you elsewhere!
Kind of looks like Keanu Reaves. This is what happens when churches no longer treat the Bible as God’s word. And it will continue to get worse.
The UMC has over $20B in their “Bank”. They were in tight with Obama for years. Their “pope” Adam Hamilton built a $100M mega church in Kansas City last year. It’s always about the money. I’m sure Soros is in the middle of it, as well.
The rules ARE what they allow with impunity. What's "official" is used toilet paper.
God bless the Southern Baptist Convention. For all of their faults, they are the only major Christian church group to my knowledge which has been steadily and increasingly disfellowshipping such apostate member congregations without apology.
I have often wondered why so many conservatives stubbornly remain in the “United Methodist” denomination considering all the damage this group has done.
There are conservative “Southern Methodists” too, but the numbers are too small to acknowledge.
Isn’t George Bush a Methodist?
This denomination died when it began ordaining women ministers a long time ago.
There is not a church group which does this which will remain orthodox for very long. Yes, even many Pentecostal and Charismatic groups do so, and look at the mess they are.
