A TV adaptation of Batwoman is to become the first live-action superhero series with an openly gay lead character.
The show is being developed for the US channel, the CW, adding to the network's collection of shows based on DC comics characters.
Batwoman was introduced in the 1950s as a love interest for Batman to dispel rumours of his own homosexuality.
The character was reintroduced in 2006 as a gay woman called Kate Kane.
She has since become the highest-profile openly gay character of any DC comic.
The show's synopsis describes Kate Kane as an "out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence".
It says she is "armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind".
However, she must "overcome her own demons" before emerging as a hero in Gotham City.

I love the CW for re-runs of shows that are...in Re-Runs, LOL! I have never ONCE watched any of their prime time schlock. And I never will.

I didn’t read comic books and I doubt if I will ever watch comic book movies or TV shows.
We can opt out, but they’ve sold this type of thing to the next generations, and so down hill we go.
Imagine what they’ll be selling their kids.
Also, Steaky, the super cat. I’m going from memory here, because I read most of those comics when they were published. I believe there was a super monkey, as well.

Yvonne Craig died about 3 years ago, the first Batgirl and was she ever a Babe and a Half, and a good actress. She was in a lot of good movies and TV shows before she got that role. Getting old, I do miss the movies and TV I grew up with, would rather watch the old stuff any day.
