LAS VEGAS -- MGM Resorts International has sued hundreds of victims of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history in a bid to avoid liability for the gunfire that rained down from its Mandalay Bay casino-resort in Las Vegas.
The company argues in lawsuits filed Friday in Nevada and California that it has "no liability of any kind" to survivors or families of slain victims under a federal law enacted after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The lawsuits target victims who have sued the company and voluntarily dismissed their claims or have threatened to sue after a gunman shattered the windows of his Mandalay Bay suite and fired on a crowd gathered below for a country music festival.
High-stakes gambler Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and injured hundreds more last year before killing himself. Victims with active lawsuits against MGM don't face the company's legal claim.
MGM says the 2002 law limits liabilities when a company or group uses services certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and mass attacks occur. The company says it is not liable because its security vendor for the concert, Contemporary Services Corp., was federally certified at the time of the Oct. 1 shooting.
MGM claims the victims -- through actual and threatened lawsuits -- have implicated CSC's services because they involve concert security, including training, emergency response and evacuation.

Politics aside, people these days tend to have no empathy. I could not imagine being a parent or loved one of the murdered. The concern is to bury the story, avoid liability and protect interests. Watching the video of that massacre and the reaction/non actions afterwards is just horrific and stunning. Every massacre goes down the memory hole and government/law enforcement is completely worthless.
Why exactly would MGM be liable? Were they complicit? grossly negligent?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but when TWA800 went down and the official story was that it was the center fuel tank, I don’t remember any class actions or retribution to TWA.
It seems inconsistent, legally anyway, to hold the hotel legally responsible.
Well, it probably is more efficient for you to post without bothering to read. Maybe you are gunning for a job with a major network?
“The complaints mention hundreds of victims by name who have filed suits against MGM, and refers to at least 1,000 others who have filed their intention to sue.”
So they are suing in FEDERAL court over 1000 people who haven’t even brought suit anywhere, and hundreds of people who have brought suit in STATE courts.
Find a lawyer who can explain lawsuits, counterclaims, third party complaints, and removals to you before you continue to make up facts to suit your theories.
Or just ask CNN for a job.
You smell. Too much emotion in you comments. Too much crap.
What you wrote exactly supports what I said.
Here you go (hint, filing party’s name goes before the v., sued party’s name after the v. Frequently the defendants are listed in Alphabetical order in the complaint, cause references the first named defendant)
MGM Resorts International Inc. v. Acosta
Case No. 18-cv-01288

MGM Resorts International Inc. v. Aase
Case No. 18-cv-06113

Over 2500 have sued MGM already...(some have dropped their suits)...the 1K in question have sued MGM for liability (some pending, some “dropped”). So “countersuit” is appropriate language.

Sundowning?
Maybe you'll be able to comprehend what you read in the morning.
You’re trying to make an arcane point I wasn’t addressing, it seems.
The article makes it seem like the company went out on it’s own, looked up the names of all the victims and decided to sue them out of the blue.
In fact, as you’ve verified, these suits are in response to people who already sued them or stated intention to sue.
That puts things in a different perspective.
If you are saying countersue is not the technically correct term, I won’t argue.
Thanks for getting the point.
I’ll apologized for my overheated rhetoric.
Ok.
What the FBI has “not” done thus far is call it a “terror attack”. As far as what I posted, I was pretty clear that this was Scott Adams’ theory, which to me, absent any other evidence, sounds plausible. We may never know what his motive was since he apparently didn’t leave any evidence of it...
Excessive Peyote abuse....or listening to that idiot Glenn Beck. Trump was in DC

As you said, there is no evidence because the FBI hasn’t released any. They are keeping a lid on it. That in itself is evidence.
