Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday that he wouldn't be "intimidated" by protesters who have confronted him in public several times this year.
"I'm not sure what about my career has led them to believe that I am easily intimidated. ... This is all about intimidation. It's not about persuasion but about intimidation. And I assure you I will not be intimidated by these groups of socialists who apparently prefer open borders," McConnell told reporters in Kentucky.
McConnell and his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, were confronted as they left an event near Washington last month by protesters over supporting detained families who were caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.
Protesters heckled McConnell again at two restaurants in Kentucky over the weekend, according to the Courier Journal, urging him to look at abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
"Honestly, I enjoyed my lunch and I'm just sorry that other people at the restaurant seemed to be inconvenienced by all of this. But it's not about persuasion. It's about intimidation. I will not be intimidated by these people," McConnell added on Friday.

Let’s nuke in the next couple of SC picks. Including the current one and when RBG retires. (hopefully not long on her)
Nuke them in, and call it “The Reid Option”. That will send the liberals into a tizzy. 6-3 then 7-2.
There will be packs screaming at the sky. I will need popcorn.
Did trump build a spine in mitch???
There will be packs screaming at the sky.
Trump's got six and a half years to go, so it's going to happen anyway. May as well yank that bandaid off now, and get all the screaming over with.
Sure will be fun to watch the fight go out of them as they sink into the depths of despair.
Rock on Senator! Stand up to those tyrants.
It’s not that his feelings were hurt - it’s just that what you said was monumentally ridiculous - and your response to him was just as ridiculous. What make such obviously ridiculous statements? The nomination was clearly held up until Trump made his appointment - they did not then vote on Garland before Trump had a chance to take office after the election occurred - did you honestly not notice that? What would have been the point of “holding it for Hillary” vs. giving Obama his appointment? That would have made no difference in the make up of the Court so your comments makes even less sense. We did not even have a nominee yet when the vacancy occurred, either.
The nuke was already done for Gorsuch...that is now the rule.
We need a few extra seats to counter Collins and a couple of others in the event there are more vacancies especially from the liberal side of the Court. Romney replacing Hatch could also be problematic making gaining more seats all the more important.
Bookmark to read comments. He’s right: the left are trying intimidation.
Bravo!
Not going to say anything other than respond this way, Never threaten anyone, it ruins the surprise.
The only people who would argue against your point are those who believe that our country is born of our government and that we are merely tenants, paying rent to ensure our citizenship.... And basically, thats how the left sees the constituency, which is why they assert the rest of the world’s right to live here.
I do love those election night videos. ;)
In the minds of everyone in DC hillary was the next president. The election was but a mere formality. You will understand that as you study the situation more closely.
I think that is exactly how the Left sees America—as belonging to the government, not the people. And they don’t agree with our distrust of “big government”, since every problem can only be solved by the government. But as Thomas Paine said, “Government, at best, is but a necessary evil. At worst, an intolerable one”. However, and ironically, the Left has lost respect for the founding fathers unless you can somehow argue that they were socialists.
Thanks Browdie...
You’re not alone in that sentiment. The more that the “Dales” of this country try to intimidate conservatives, the more they will move the needle of the undecideds who are not comfortable with the left’s “brown shirt street tactics” towards the right.
Outside of POTUS Trump himself, in my view the man most responsible for electing him president is Sen McConnell - precisely because his “holding the line” on the vacant Scalia seat motivated POTUS Trump’s base to turn out and support him.
He may not be the late Jesse Helms (my own favorite senator), but Mitch’s been a guy who has been dependable when the chips were down and we as a free people were back-to-back in our very last “foxhole” in 2016 ....
So where are the poeple with a spine to stand up to these cowards?
I know for sure, as my sons would if we saw a republican figure being heckled and harassed we sure would go tot he protesters and get in their face, and see how they like it.
It is about time our side , all of us got some balls and stood up to these little skinny cowards, and let them know their time is over.
I say the same
Yep see it all the time on social media. I bring out a point with their lies, and then they cannot answer a question, but instead refer back to name calling, and playing the victim .
