Former President George W. Bush says hes disturbed by the immigration debate occurring under President Trump, where after decades, Americans are speaking out against mass immigration to the United States. During a panel discussion alongside former President Bill Clinton, Bush said the current immigration debate doesnt recognize the valuable contributions of foreign nationals.
Im disturbed by the debate thats taking place because I think it undermines the goodness of America, Bush said. I think it doesnt recognize the valuable contributions that immigrants make to our society. And it obscures the fact the rhetoric does that the system is broken and needs to be fixed.

George, you just got one of your federal judge appointments, nominated to the Supreme Court. Next time we hear from you, it should be an endorsement for Trump in 2020.
I know. Eight years of bammy and not a peep.
Right on point. Thanks!
“Bush family was a bunch of first class phonies, rode in on Reagans coattails, had no discernable support of their own, then did their best to reverse his policies.”
How right you are.
Those are the honest sentiments for many of us who supported him for a number of reasons.
Booting away a good conservative appointment for his personal lawyer? How crazy was this? At least it was stopped. We got the somewhat better Justice Roberts.
He’s a Bushie #1
CoC chump to the end, eh, George?
To me, this man’s No. 1 dereliction was not the border, that was No. 2.
His No.1 dereliction was the banking collapse. He turned a blind eye to the corruption and criminal acts in banking. Even as his investigators and other responsible agencies informed him of the level of crime in the banking sector, he refused to act, had his people stand down.
His family has fostered banking crime in every banking matter they have touched.
It is outrageous.
Both. They aren’t mutually exclusive.
George is diminishing the respect many of us had for the office of the President. Once again he is proving it’s the man not the office. Like so many here I feel gulled at having looked up to Bush after 9/11 and for his support of the military. The rot within was well hidden.
Perhaps George is mentally ill at this point, to be so confused about legal & illegal immigrants. One group has been an important part of who we are; the other is a scourge and a cancer destroying our Country.
President Trump is taking charge, taking unpopular stands and standing strong. He is cleaving to the Constitution and the original contract that joined us together into a Country. He is using his business acumen to get the ship back on course, back to being a growth engine so that all who strive can succeed. Back to Enumerated Rights, Responsibility and Equal Justice under the Law. God Bless Donald Trump and have mercy on the haters like Bush for I can not.
That much is true. A "system" that allows, even encourages, ILLEGAL ALIENS to flood across our borders is very broken, and very much in need of fixing.
A lot of us were duped by the uniparty in 2000, including me.
NEVER AGAIN!
Indeed
“obscures the fact the rhetoric does that the system is broken and needs to be fixed.”
Yeah, and you helped break it, you dope.
actually, it does none of those things. you are an idiot GWB
Clinton tried to shake the image of Democrats being soft on crime - which is why he signed the Crime Bill and why he allowed US Border Patrol to enforce our existing laws. Since his Presidency, the Democrats have recognized that giving illegals citizenship and the vote is the best way to turn southwestern red states blue or at least purple and are now against even the most basic enforcement of our immigration laws.
Establishment Republicans like the Bushes don't mind this scenario so much as long as their constituents get the cheap labor that they want: so what if once decent neighborhoods are turned into Mesoamerican slums as long as the elites can have an obedient, ignorant Central American peasant mowing the lawn rather than an uppity American?
George Bush did twice. Last time in 2007 and Jeff Session was very important in stopping it
This is true, and Sessions is the first AG we've had in years who concerns himself with border enforcement, which is why I don't understand the Sessions hatefest on this site (or the idiots who think that Sessions ought to be replaced by Giuliani or Christie, both of whom favor amnesty for illegals).
Just because fake news and fake polls says
Trumps stands are unpopular, you believe that?
Here’s an idea. Shut up and go away.
