Live Coverage: Peter Strzok Questioned by Members of Congress
House lawmakers are poised to question Peter Strzok on Thursday in what is sure to be a lengthy, tense standoff between Republicans and the FBI agent who once worked on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference.
Strzok has been in Republicans' sights for several months after a Justice Department inspector general investigation revealed that he exchanged text messages before the 2016 election that were critical of Donald Trump with Lisa Page, a former FBI lawyer with whom he was having an affair at the time.
Mueller promptly removed Strzok from the Russia investigation when the messages were revealed, but Republicans have zeroed in on him as key to uncovering what they allege was systemic FBI bias against Trump during the election. Democrats, meanwhile, have cast the effort as a politically-driven charade.
Lawmakers questioned Strzok behind closed doors late last month now, those on the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees will have the opportunity to question him publicly.
Strzok is under subpoena to testify before the committees in the public hearing.
Strzok plans to call scrutiny another notch in Putins belt
Strzok reportedly plans to tell lawmakers that the focus on his anti-Trump text messages is aiding Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Associated Press, which reviewed prepared remarks Strzok is expected to deliver, reported that the FBI agent will defend himself against the intense scrutiny from GOP lawmakers by saying his work has been free of political bias.
Let me be clear, unequivocally and under oath: not once in my 26 years of defending my nation did my personal opinions impact any official action I took, Strzok will say, according to the AP.
He is expected to tell lawmakers that Congresss focus on his actions and text messages is just another victory notch in Putins belt and another milestone in our enemies campaign to tear America apart.
My guess, nothing to see here. They’ll probe, he’ll duck and weave and no one will lay a glove on him! Even if they do, nothing, absolutely, nothing will come of it! Laws for yee but not for me!
I wonder how often we’ll hear “on the advice of counsel...”
Yes,... a notch in Putin’s belt
Russia, Russia, Russia...
And we have people THIS STUPID in charge at the FBI?
They are too dumb to conduct an investigation.
Grandstanding by congressmen, don’t miss the lockeroom show where they tell you how brilliant their questions were.
Being “grilled” by the same feckless fools who let a girl beat them up.
Nothing to see here..move along...just lies from the swamp slime!! Sessions passed on the 2 special council, which by now those bastards would’ve been incarcerated ... POS swamp creature!!
I wonder how often well hear on the advice of counsel...
More times than not...
The difference in the handling of the Hillary email investigation and the Russia collusion shows bias. He doesn’t have to confess to it. It is obvious.
Grilling? More like warmed over.
Thanks for what will likely be a short thread.
Though Strzok taking the fifth will make for some very bad optics for the Feebs and Deep State.
Let me be clear, unequivocally and under oath: not once in my 26 years of defending my nation did my personal opinions impact any official action I took,
This is rich.
I’m not near the boob tube. Is that from a written statement?!
Here is the downside to this, after all the shucking and jiving, he will escape unscathed and our case against them will be weakened.
If he takes the 5th, then Muller should be done. Poisoned fruits.
Yikes - first time we’ve seen the back of his head. He needs to get some “hair in a spray can”. Almost looks like he could be a monk, and we all know he’s no monk!
Let me be clear”
He looks like he doesn’t have a care in the world and why should he. He knows that this going nowhere. If he doesn’t take the 5th, we’ll hear lots of “I can’t recall”.
