A woman was found dead inside the trash compactor of a swanky Union Square apartment building on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Cops and paramedics responded to Zeckendorf Towers at 1 Irving Place at 4:55 p.m. and “discovered a 48-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive inside a trash compactor,” according to an NYPD statement.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yeah that was a possibility I considered. One would think they would be seen earlier on video.
I don’t know how those garbage chutes are designed. I would think you’d have to make an effort to fall down one. Like being stupid enough to get inside and push on garbage if it were stuck.
And what’s up with the purse by the elevator?
As usual, I imagine the cops know more than they’re letting on.
Must be pretty good security at the place if one can leave their valuables out. Or, more likely, hers was one of four or less apartments on the floor?
I would imagine someone would have to try pretty hard to put themselves into a garbage chute?
I wonder if as she was sliding down she thought to herself “Oh - NOW I remember. I didn't accidently drop my purse! I left it by the elevat...”

I read of somebody getting stuck by a needle in a restroom garbage can as he pushed his paper towel down the overflowing can. Ever since - I don’t do that!

Just heard that this complex is the home of Carlos Danger & Spouse.
On a side note, I remember when Rabbi Kahane was shot to death in NYC in 1990. The NYC Police assured the public there was no wider conspiracy.
Then came the 1993 WTC bombing. By the same people who were close associates of the guy who assassinated Kahane.
