Yes, but he winds up leaving it in about 1/3rd of the stories, for everything from the recipe for saucisse minuit to avoiding a local secretive crime figure who had tried to kill him with a bomb delivered as gourmet sausage. He was given a house in Egypt by a grateful client that could serve as an emergency escape valve.
