CNN Breaking News: John Kelly Drank Water

On Wednesday’s edition of New Day, hosts Alisyn Camerota and John Berman spent a large amount of the program analyzing the ongoing NATO summit. Some of the coverage descended into silliness and absurdity, including two moments when Berman carefully dissected Chief of Staff John Kelly’s hydration habits.

In the first hour, Berman brought up Kelly’s demeanor in a clip where President Trump was criticizing Germany for its energy dependence on Russia. In the clip, Kelly takes a sip of water, adjusts himself in is seat, and scratches his ear. According to Berman and CNN Senior Political Analyst, John Avlon, this was a sign of extreme discomfort with the situation:

BERMAN: So you see, John Kelly There, you see Mike Pompeo both siting their stoically, Kate Bailey Hutchinson, I’m not sure they’re down with this whole thing.

JOHN AVLON: Stoically? Yeah I mean look, John Kelly was one shot away from a spit take and a face palm.

Berman found this clip so compelling, he brought it up again during the second hour. Berman echoed his analysis from the first hour with Camerota, joking that Kelly was drinking vodka:

BERMAN: I want you to look at their faces, and look at how many drinks of water --

ALISYN CAMEROTA: That’s vodka.

BERMAN: -- the Chief of Staff needs --

CAMEROTA: That’s vodka.

BERMAN: -- while the President is talking about this.

TRUMP: you tell me if that's appropriate, because I think it's not. And I think it's a very bad thing for NATO.

BERMAN: You see, John Kelly there you know, shrugging --

CAMEROTA: I like a good body language segment.

BERMAN: Looked away he’s like “Oh boy here we go again.” You know, you get the sense that they were not comfortable with the president's views on this alliance.

Berman clearly demonstrated that his eagerness to find anything negative to say about the Trump administration extends to things as small as John Kelly having the gall to take a sip of water during breakfast. The silliness of this coverage is best suited for tabloid papers not “the most trusted name in news.”

[He didn’t just sip water, he scratched his ear too. You know who else sipped water and scratched his ear? Adolf Hitler, that’s who!]

LOL good one - you forgot to include that it was at the direct order from Vladmir Putin, though.

Hey, your phone is about to ring. MSNBC and CNN will be fighting over you, trying to make you an Executive Producer.

;)

Let me know when he orders all of the press entourage to “form it up” and then orders them to drink water until they all puke.

That’s an insult to hammers. At

CNN’s tools are useless.

I remember when Trump met with Obama right after the election and there was a photo of him leaning forward with his hands hanging down and the tips of his fingers touching. A body language expert analyzed this. First, the picture, then the analysis:

"it was Trump's hands that caught Wood's attention - he put them in a 'downward prayer position'. 'The thing that is very significant is Trump's hand position,' Wood told DailyMail.com, describing it as the 'downward prayer position', which is not typical for the President-elect. 'My read is that he has learned something he didn't know before. It's a tentative hand position. Trump holds his own hands as he begins speaking which is an indication he needs to comfort himself.'

In other words, he was so intimidated by the great Obama that he was like a scared boy trying to act tough but not pulling it off.

Uh huh. I've since seen a dozen pics of Trump in many situations always sitting the same way. He literally always sits like this when he's not behind a table. Fake. News.

Probably why O’Reilly got rid of his weekly body language segment, unless the girl finally got tired of his come-ons.

Didn’t the media criticize Marco Rubio for drinking water during a speech? And I seem to remember the media criticizing a Republican with “cotton mouth” who foolishly failed to drink water during a speech, and ended up sounding funny.

It's like those times (yes, plural) when a fly landed on Obama's face and he just let it sit there, remember how the press really laid into him for that? Oh, right. They pretended it never happened.

Did you see him flipping thru notes? Trump was hammering him and he was flipping pages.

Can we get some body language expert to explain that? Really confusing.

Nervous energy, didn't know how to respond so he pretended to be looking for information.

LOL. I found that funny. It is fair game for the news to joke around about this stuff. But I never recall them cracking a joke about Hillary being thrown into that van like a sack of potatoes. If they were consistent I wouldn’t have a problem — seeing how I don’t watch CNN anyway. :-)
