Earlier today I wrote about the tough map Democrats are facing in the Senate. One of the places where Democrats hope to unseat a Republican incumbent is in Nevada where Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen is challenging incumbent Sen. Dean Heller. One of the qualifications Rosen has repeatedly cited as part of her campaign for the seat is that she built a small business as a computer programmer which her campaign claims she ran between 1993 and 2002. But Monday, when everyone was focused on President Trumps Supreme Court nominee, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported that there is little documentation from any source to back up Rosens claims about her business:

I've run a home improvement business for over twenty years, and have never had a business license. Not every business is required to have one.
If she was a really small time operator, she may not have even had a DBA, or a business banking account. I've known people who operated so far under the radar, they barely made a paper trail of any kind. It's not really being I'm business'. More like being self employed.
My wife and I have kept every scrap of paper our business has ever generated, since day one, over twenty years ago.
At some point we may digitize it all, but we'll never toss the hard copies. Old dog - old tricks...
I used to know self employed guys in the construction business who worked by referral only, with no licenses or legal setup of any kind.
Most got paid by check, which they cashed in person at their cutomers' banks. They were careful to only deposit small amounts of cash in their personal bank accounts to stay below the IRS radar.
Okay, well I'd suggest if they run for office they should refrain from using their off the books businesses as a citation of their bona fides as a small businessman. Because it might raise questions. As it may have with this woman, if that's what was happening.
