The ball is in Mitch McConnells court again. He guided Neil Gorsuch to a seat on the Supreme Court with ease in 2017. Hes a perfect 21 for 21 in confirming the federal appeals-court nominees of President Trump, with more to come this year. Given the thin margin he has to work with, this is impressive.
Mr. McConnell adopted as his top priority as Senate majority leader an ambitious effort to make the federal courts more conservativefrom top to bottom. Theres only one way to do thisfill every judicial vacancy with a conservative.
For Mr. McConnell, this is a war. Justice Gorsuch was D-Day. Judge Brett Kavanaugh is the slog across France. Mr. McConnell is a general in a hurry to keep winning, since Republicans could lose the Senate majority in November.
With this nomination, Mr. McConnells task has gotten more difficult than last year. Republicans had a 52-48 majority last year when they approved Justice Gorsuch unanimously. Now the majority is effectively 50-49, with a Democratic pickup in Alabama and John McCains absence.
When Justice Gorsuch sailed through, Democrats and the left were reeling from Donald Trumps election. Their opposition was inept. The vaunted resistance to anything associated with Mr. Trump was pathetic. Now Democrats are committed to blocking Judge Kavanaugh, and theyre serious. But they still have Chuck Schumer as their leader, and they still cant do it without Republican help.
Mr. McConnell is no Chuck Schumer. He doesnt try to make clever compromises that quickly fall apart, as Mr. Schumer did...

If Trump can replace the notorious RBG and Justice Thomas then we have change for a "generation".
Could be his lasting legacy, a positive one. Unlike McLame.
She has diabetes.
Ha! Very true.
As someone said, THEN President Trump can bring out the woman.
As someone else said, they opposed Palin, though.
sigh
We sure do live in “interesting times”.....
Wasn’t there something about the Wise Latina (TM) being not in the best of health recently? Or at least I thought I read that.
Mich might consider dumping the “30-hour rule”....that slows down the judicial appointment flow.
Oh just saw it. NVM
What’s the projected timeline on this SCOTUS confirmation?
I’ve searched articles, but haven’t been able to find this info.
She's diabetic.
McConnell has been very good with the judges thing. I can’t believe he has been as good as he has in this area.
I do not see most of them lasting seven years
Thomas is only 70, and Breyer is only 79. Maybe Breyer might be gone on a second term, RBG perhaps, but unless Thomas has indicated he wants out sooner, he might stay on quite awhile. Sotomayor can be on until her health gets worse but who knows about that. So I say Trump needs a second term for 1-2 more possibly.
Rumor is that Thomas will retire.
as incompetent as mcconnell is on legislative issues ——
Between keeping Garland off, changing to 50 votes, and now confirming 2 SC justices ... he has had a great impact on the country. Thank you turtle and your wife
And that's what it's all about, like the Hokey pokey.
Will there be videos for posterity? Great pleasure in re-watching the election ones.
I’ve watched them several times, too.
There’s the one where the woman (unknown blonde) tells women to get their abortions NOW. So if you were going to kill your baby in the future, best to do it right after the election.....
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Type 1 is super manageable, if you want to manage it. My son’s had it since he was 19 months and has never been hospitalized for ketoacidosis or diabetic coma. He’s 15 now, which means we are through the bulk of puberty, which is the real rapids.
She’s 64 and they now have closed loop systems for managing it. A sensor for auto-detecting BCG level and it talks wirelessly with a pump that regulates with Humalog or Novalog.
If she’s that sick with type 1, then she’s basically refusing to treat herself. Everybody wins in that case, I guess.
