Justice Anthony Kennedys retirement from the Supreme Court, and President Trumps nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to replace him, is the doomsday scenario liberals feared when Senate Republicans thwarted the appointment of Merrick Garland in 2016: The GOPs brazen act of democratic sabotage will almost certainly deliver the high court to the far right for a generation. In the years ahead, the court will probably further erode reproductive rights, gay rights and voting rights, ushering in the darkest era in American history since the post-Reconstruction period.
Sounds hysterical, right? After all, Democrats will get their chance at reversing the courts majority when they get back in power, as early as 2021. Except court appointments dont work like elections. The remaining conservatives on the court are young Clarence Thomas is the oldest at 70 and Trump is insistent on naming young justices. It is possible that a two-term Democratic president could serve from 2021 to 2029 without being able to replace a single Republican-appointed justice.
That grim reality is leading many on the left to contemplate radical ideas, including an idea considered and discarded 80 years ago: court-packing. The idea of court-packing adding extra justices to the Supreme Court in order to change its ideological makeup causes most Americans to blanch. But if done right, it would actually offer a crucial avenue for safeguarding American democracy.

The Dims have no leader, just a lot of hollering.
The moon’s not busy,it’ll listen!
Frankly I could care less about abortion and LGBT, etc. The can marry their McCall if they want to. The only time I am interested in what they do is if it cost me money as a taxpayer.
So typical of Democrats: don’t get your way, change all the precedents, change the laws, change all the traditions. Even FDR couldn’t jam that court packing through.
When a leftist says “democracy” he means savage repression and taking money from Whitey and giving it to non-Whitey.
Again betraying a total lack of knowledge of our history, they don’t know what happened when FDR tried that gambit.
What they really mean - it’s the only way to keep our leftist agenda from collapsing since the People by way of the vote would never let them become law.
This is RICH... to “save democracy” (aka: DemWit power) you have to destroy it. North Korea is the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”. Modern American Dems use similar meanings for the word.
“Freedom is Slavery!”
Have not seen exactly what the threats are to the republic articulate anywhere. Seems more like another liberal emotional tag line.
This crap is staged, centrally coordinated and commanded, and will tire out quickly.
LOL! First it would take a complete Democrat takeover of the House, the Senate and the White House. Their majorities would have to be large in both the House and Senate because you can guarantee it will be so wildly unpopular with the American people that several Democrats will oppose it. Then you have to ram them all through before the voters get the chance to punish you in the next election - because rest assured, they will.
But tell ya what......do keep talking about your plans to pack the Supreme Court If given the chance. Well see how that goes for you.
I thought of the FDR fail as well. I’m wondering if the comPost article mentions it.
Rats should be blaiming the old libs on the court for not retiring during Obama’s term.
They thought Hillary would cheat her way to a win and hung around.
Not republicans fault
AND Amnesty, Open Borders, legalizing FELONs to vote, and all their other nefarious ideas.
Sounds like a great idea to me. Let’s start it now? Raise the number to 11 and appoint 2 more conservative judges.

Now, when do we get to the park?
Typical Democrap behavior.
If you can’t win by the rules, change the rules............
Uhhhh no it wouldnt. Court packing is increasing the number of justices to alter its ideological make-up. Appointing a bunch of justices is not court packing. Its just good fortune.
Anyone else notice the irony of “packing the court” to “save ‘our’ democracy”?
