~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, California

Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is a United States Navy weapons and munitions loading, storage and maintenance facility located in Seal Beach, California with detachments in Concord, Fallbrook, and San Diego, all also in California.

The command exists to provide base operating support to the Navy's ordnance mission. Command and tenant personnel provide munitions receipt, segregation, inspection, maintenance, storage, issue, and assessment services to Navy operating forces and other Department of Defense and homeland security entities. Overall, the command supports the provisioning of missiles, torpedoes, and other ordnance to a majority of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

NWS Seal Beach occupies 5,256 acres, has 230 buildings and 128 ammunition magazines providing 589,299 feet of ammunition storage space. Ammunition is moved from storage to the docks on 56 miles of railroad line and 80 miles of road. The base owns 130 pieces of railroad rolling stock and 230 trucks and trailers to move the ammunition which is loaded onto ships using six mobile cranes that can lift up to 90 tons.

The Weapons Station is also home to the West Coast site of the World War II Submarine Memorial. The Memorial is dedicated to the over 3000 submariners who lost their lives in United States submarines in the 52 submarines lost during WWII. There are also plaques dedicated to those who lost their lives in submarine accidents during the Cold War. The Memorial is located outside the main entrance to the Weapons Station on Seal Beach Boulevard and is accessible to the public.

I must say it was very strange opening that door and having them not scurry away only to come running back to the food dish.

Glad to hear it!

I hope y’all aren’t dealing with the sweltering heat that’s plaguing so many folks this summer.

I do hope they show up soon. I’ll be fretting about them until they do.

Thanks, Pro...did it get hot in your area?

Our heat wave is over for now. And they said rain for several days, that is much needed. But...no rain so far.

Hi Kathy, yup, it's the dog days of summer hot, but the A/C is helping a bunch.

How hot is your summer usually?

That’s my memory as well. I thought all of the buoys were mines. The 50s were great in SoCal! Another memory is of all of the war-surlplus search lights that car dealers would use when the new models came in.

I can’t imagine where they went, unlsess Li’l Bit took them to her original home and someone took them in. They are still gone. I put food out there for the night, and even Ghost and she were missing. Quite a mystery.

Watch them all show up in the morning. LOL! I’ll let you know if they do. Ginger was out last night. Maybe she had enough and threw a hissy fit overnight. LOL!

As skittish as they are, it’s hard to believe someone was able to get their hands on all of them. Odd that they all disappeared at once. Maybe Ghost and Lil Bit are looking for them. Hope they find them!

Ghost has been meowing loudly throughout the day and Li’l Bit looked as though she was looking for them when it was time to eat, but I just looked out and all the food I left out for them at about 8pm is still there. If they’ve found a home, that would be such a relief.

I really hope no one called the pound on them. I sure didn’t and I haven’t seen the pound truck around here lately. The kittens hadn’t even left my back yard till, I guess, overnight.

Never understood how we all kept our tongues in place till Joe Biden fingerprinted Seal team Six, Got a pile of them killed and somehow Obama got glory.

I’m rambling.

Better call Chuck

Someone calling animal control is my concern. :-( They were obviously snatched up by someone.
