The base owns 130 pieces of railroad rolling stock and 230 trucks and trailers to move the ammunition which is loaded onto ships using six mobile cranes that can lift up to 90 tons. The Weapons Station is also home to the West Coast site of the World War II Submarine Memorial. The Memorial is dedicated to the over 3000 submariners who lost their lives in United States submarines in the 52 submarines lost during WWII. There are also plaques dedicated to those who lost their lives in submarine accidents during the Cold War. There is the sea, vast and spacious, . . . and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
Psalm 104:2526
When you go to the deep sea, every time you take a sample, youll find a new species, says marine biologist Ward Appeltans. In one recent year, scientists identified 1,451 new types of undersea life. We simply dont know the half of whats down there.
In Job 3840, God reviewed His creation for Jobs benefit. In three poetic chapters, God highlighted the wonders of weather, the vastness of the cosmos, and the variety of creatures in their habitats. These are things we can observe. Then God spoke of the mysterious Leviathanfor an entire chapter. Leviathan is a creature like no other, with harpoon-deflecting armor (Job 41:7, 13), graceful power (v. 12), and fearsome teeth (v. 14). Flames stream from its mouth . . . smoke pours from its nostrils (vv. 1920). Nothing on earth is its equal (v. 33).
Okay, so God talks about a huge creature we havent seen. Is that the point of Job 41?
No! Job 41 broadens our understanding of Gods surprising character. The psalmist expanded on this when he wrote, There is the sea, vast and spacious, . . . and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there (Psalm 104:2526). After the terrifying description in Job, we learn that God created a playpen for this most fearsome of all creatures. Leviathan frolics.
We have the present to explore the ocean. Well have eternity to explore the wonders of our magnificent, mysterious, playful God.
Our exploration of creation teaches us about the Creator.

During the 1950’s, huge stacks of metal buoys greeted travelers along Seal Beach Blvd. as they drove past the base. Some were oblong and others were spherical. My mother thought they were bombs and torpedoes, but they were apparently used for anti-submarine nets during WWII.

When I was a child my parents would rent a beach house at the southern end of Belmont shores. The channel used by the Navy to access the ammo base was only a block away. Every day we could watch as the various warships steamed by to be re-armed. For a young child like I was then it was an exciting sight!
Belmont Shores is an underused beach. Not many know but it is chock full of Pismo clams. Over the years I’ve taken various dates there to shovel for our dinner which usually consisted of grilled steak, lobster, clam chowder, etc. cooked, of course on the beach!

Howdy radu! Hope you had a good day today. Was the weather pretty there....any rain? How are the kittehs?
it was cool here after getting that nice rain over the weekend. Could get some more rain tonight. Fingers XX’d!
Believe it or not, when I went out this morning with cat food and to let Ginger in, there were NO kittens! Anywhere!. So I put the food out, and the only ones that ate were Ghost and Li’l Bit. It’s been like that all day. Have no clue what happened with them! They’ll probably be back tomorrow, but Peaches sure enjoyed going out and not freaking out! LOL!

Can’t blame ya for stickin’ around in the A/C. I’ve been doin’ that as much as possible this summer. LOL!
At least it will be cooler tomorrow so you can mow without falling out.
Had to take Sasha to the vet to get a couple of shots this afternoon but other than that the kittehs are doing well. They’re all asleep at the moment and we’re enjoying the quiet ....... while it lasts. LOL

Great that it was cool again there. Croosing my fingers, too, for more rain tonight. You need all you can get!
I hope the kittens are alright! A bit unnerving that they haven’t been around all day.
It was a pretty day here but a little on the toasty side. Might get a little rain the next couple of days, they say, but we’ll see.
Now kicked back, watching Salvation and typing during commercials. LOL
