Amul Thapar, the first Indian American federal court jurist, met July 2 with President Donald Trump, who is interviewing potential nominees to fill the seat vacated by retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Thapar, who currently serves on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and holds the distinction of being Trumps first judicial appointee, was one of four possible candidates interviewed by the president. The Washington Post first broke the names of the other potential nominees, including federal appeals judges Raymond Kethledge, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. The White House has said Trump intends to interview two more candidates before making an announcement July 9.
Despite pushback from organizations who described Thapar as ultraconservative, the jurist sailed through his Senate confirmation hearing last year, which much support from Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, and was duly appointed to the Sixth Circuit.
Sundeep Sandhu, newly-elected president of the South Asian Bar Association North Americas, told India-West that Thapar has been a long-time supporter of the organization. We are incredibly proud of him. He is a highly-experienced, learned judge, and well respected in his profession.
NASABA honored Thapar with its Pioneer award in 2010.
The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, which awarded Thapar its Trailblazer Award in 2015, also lauded the judge in a statement emailed to India-West.

He’s more Indian than “Fauxahauntas” Warren.
Advanced quantum mechanics is easier to comprehend than Supreme Court speculation.
Aw, that’s what all the theoretical physicists say.
A little older then Amy but under 50. Good pick if chosen.
Plus (a) how does one call Trump a racist or anti-immigrant with this pick and (b) there goes a portion of the Indian vote towards the Republican party,
One of 4or 5 people interviewed for a highly coveted position and. O one is ready talking about him. I guess it does pay to have friends in high places and he probably does not. For that reason alone he should probably be he nominee
Whichever of the chosen ones the President picks will cause liberals to explode...The panic will be worth seeing for us all...
I think it’s going to be him.
President Trump has one appointed, another coming tomorrow and possibly two more in the near future...
This could possibly create a 7-2 conservative bent in the Supreme Court for quite a few years....
It could be more than that. RBG is 85, Breyer is 79, Thomas is 70, Alito is 68. He could have 6 in his first term.
NO thanks.

If not this time, then perhaps the next opening.
I like Thapar and I like Barrett.
Quantum theory isn’t actually all that difficult. I’ve really taken to it. I think it really undergirds theology, and I find it fascinating.
Wow..That’s what I’m hoping for!
Some guy is saying it is KNOWN that it’s Amy Coney.
I started out with her, but later I preferred Kavanaugh.
But yeah, multiple people are saying it’s HER.
What guy?
New tagline
