On eve of Trump's Supreme Court pick, top Dem suggests sacrificing Senate seats to stop nomination

Just one day before President Trump is set to announce his pick to replace retiring Supreme Court Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy in a primetime address from the White House, a top Democratic senator suggested that stopping the nominee is more important than the upcoming midterm elections.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., acknowledged that so-called red-state Democrats may be tempted to vote for Trump's selection out of political necessity, but urged his colleagues Sunday to consider more than their political careers.

"Beyond the procedure, beyond the gamesmanship, it is a life-and-death important decision to be made by this court on so many issues," the Senate minority whip said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"The men and women that I work with on the Democratic side really take this seriously," he added, after host Chuck Todd raised the possibility that Democrats could lose their bid to retake the Senate by opposing the nominee. "They understand it's an historic decision. It's about more than the next election. It's about what future the United States of America is going to chart."

It’s very telling, isn’t it. Democrats are willing to sacrifice congressional seats to control the SCOTUS pick. They know they can’t win the arguments in the legislative branch, so they use the tyranny of the courts to dictate the laws to states, and make decrees.

Yeah that’s the ticket. Mitch will then put it on hold until after the election and get it anyway

The RATS have ruled and held power through the courts, not justly, for much of the last 50 years. You can bet there are dozens of commie/socialist/fascist tyrants wearing the DNC logo of blackrobed tyrant.

Actually, they would have nothing to worry about. If they vote to please the dem party, and are not reelected, they are guaranteed a plum job for life, with high pay and low effort.

They will reap the financial rewards, compliments of the dem party.

Yeah, genius move for sure. Dems throw away the chance to take a majority in the US Sewer. Then President Trump can nominate someone more Deplorable. What strategy!

Wait til’ RBG drops dead two weeks before the mid-terms. All the “news” folks will be screaming at the viewers berating them for not having assassinated Trump yet.

Durbin is not totally stupid. He might realize that November is lost anyway. So sacrificing Dems in November is meaningless. Meanwhile, blocking the nominee is still viable in Durbin’s mind. Blocking the nominee will save the establishment Dems from the Cortez style Democratic Socialists.

Stopping a USSC nomination by “sacrificing Senators seems like a losing proposition, It just puts it off while assuring that the nomination they fear will occur more easily.
