RIVERSIDE, California -- Family members say a woman was shot to death by her own nephew as she tried to break up a fight he was involved in at a baby shower.
Beatrice Romo's family and friends started a memorial for her where she was killed over the weekend.
Romo was at her niece's baby shower Saturday at the Elk's Lodge in Riverside. Her daughter and son were there, too, when two men started fighting.
One of them, her husband says, was Romo's nephew, Abraham Benita. Romo tried to break it up but police say she was shot in the stomach.
"I just told her I loved her and that's it," her son Joshua said to KCAL-TV. "I felt like she was in so much pain."
Romo later died at the hospital.
Benita was arrested after a hit-and-run and charged with murder.
Police say a second person shot at the baby shower did have serious injuries but he is expected to be OK.

For me, they were an excuse to go to Home Depot for a couple of hours.

Abraham David Bonilla (shooter); apparently shot an additional person, is a convicted felon (illegally in possession of a gun), fled the scene, got into a hit-and-run where police caught him. Charged on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In my opinion, this is a very good example of why we have the death penalty.

He'll probably be safer in prison.
Upon his release, he'll never be seen again. Family members will shrug, "He went back to Mexico, maybe." when really he was cut up in to little pieces and scattered across the desert.

Don’t anybody here worry about poor Bonilla, thanks to the freshly signed AB1810 here in California, his taxpayer funded lawyers are already having their shrinks draft the reports demonstrating this was caused by a “Treatable Mental Illness” and after a few months of treatment, ALL CHARGES WILL BE DISMISSED!!!
Assembly Bill 1810 — a budget “trailer bill” that takes effect immediately. It includes a provision that seemingly allows defendants charged with any crime to get the charges put on hold and possibly dismissed if they can persuade a judge that the offense resulted from a mental disorder that a mental health expert says is treatable.

Mexican families in San Antonio have been known to shoot relatives celebrating a baby’s baptism. And we are told to accept that all cultures are equal. Hogwash.
