I found a remarkable turn around with my 19 year old right after he graduated high school. I simply told him that his mommy was no longer going to be giving him an allowance, and that if he wanted $$$ for his activities and gas, he would have to make a choice.
Don’t go or get a job and support himself.
Took about 2 weeks of no money and he put it for and got a plumber’s apprenticeship. Now he is starting to be aware of the price of things.... “A new set of tires costs how much!?”
LOL - Wait till he gets his first pay check and gets to see taxes.

oh! My step grand daughter is half Russkie and half Guateamalan.( I realize I destroyed that word) She takes after her daddy’s side (brown). She just had a melt down because someone assumed she spoke Spanish.
So next time I see her I say “ Hola, Senorita I’m Offended.” She has been completely indoctrinated at school.

Homeschool. Putting children in public schools (and many private and parochial schools) is child abuse. They are Communist brainwashing camps, with their commandants and guards bent on producing as many Socialist ignoramuses as possible.

3. Not covering your Health Insurance, even though some idiot Politicians think you should be covered by MY Plan until you’re 26.

I was always low-key to my children about my politics and even today will quickly change the discussion if politics comes up with them. That was especially hard to do during the 2016 election but I managed to hold my tongue while one of my sons and his girlfriend prattled on about how Bernie Sanders is exactly the kind of president this country needs. I did not rise to the bait and as a result, my son eventually conceded that Trump would at least be better than Hillary (once his beloved Bernie dropped out).
I also tried to keep in mind that I once considered myself a liberal in my youth and remember having quite a row with my father the day after John Lennon was shot. He was calling Lennon a good for nothing hippie commie and I, a big Beatles fan, really got into it with him. (This was just after Reagan was elected). Now, nearly 40 years later, I also consider Lennon a hopeless commie leftist but I'm still sorry he got shot. I kind of liked that "Double Fantasy" album of his (Yoko vocals notwithstanding) and still a fan of Beatles music in general. But yes, his politics stunk.
My sons are grown up now and I'm very satisfied with how they turned out. They are hard workers and self-reliant and as they age, they get less and less strident about their liberal views. I'll let their transformation to being more conservative run its natural course, as it certainly seems to be doing.
Public schools are child abuse. I’ve known far too many really great parents that were up against a tsunami of liberalism in the schools and from their fellow idiot friends.
I’d say getting kids out of the public school indoctrination camps is 75% of the fight to keep kids from being brain dead idiots. Keeping them from too much TV, Internet, and other twisted influences is at least another 15%.

I told all my children a simple story and they all “got” it almost instantly.
When they asked about the different political parties .. I said well..
it’s like if you worked all weekend washing cars for some extra cash while your siblings stayed home and played computer games. Then Monday we go to the ice cream store and I take half your money against your wishes and use it to buy them ice cream too, because, “it’s the fair thing to do”.

I am blessed with a teenager who pretty much is core Conservative with a critical thinking mind. She finds abortion abhorrent for example. Unfortunately, she recently has come out with outrageous attitudes based on what she has been reading about President Trump. Social media and the news media are disgusting propagandists. So now I get boiling mad over the lies about guns and immigration with my own daughter. This is the contention the left adores.

Or if you are feeling edgy and adventurous, put on a MAGA cap and take your son to Starbucks or somewhere and let him see the abuse heaped on you for no reason.
I am so blessed to have a son that has his head on right. He may not always agree with me (mostly does) but he always uses sound reasoning. Such a contrast to his cousins. They are lost causes.
Send them to a nation that really KNOWS what its like to live under the socialism they think they crave. Let them talk to the young people of Ukraine, for example, who just a few years ago - mostly unarmed - against their Russian puppet president who was an absolute socialist (corrupt - as all socialists are). Let your teenager visit with those who lost their friends, including the “Heavenly Hundred” who were gunned down by government snipers as they were PEACEFULLY assembled to make their voices heard in downtown Kiev in April of 2014 - all to stand AGAINST the very socialism your teens might THINK they want.
Let them hear about the horrors of food shortages and even starvation that many in Ukraine suffered.
Let them hear the TRUTH behind the Chernobyl meltdown - the poster-event for socialism’s destructiveness, including the lack of care by the government for the safety of the people (when the meltdown was caused by government ineptitude and error).
Take them to a nation currently practicing the exact form of government the “Progressives” here in the US are working very hard to implement here: so-called “Democratic Socialism” - Try Venezuela - a nation with oil reserves big enough to lift that nation to greatness - yet the people are quite literally starving to death and many now have no water at all. Inflation is in the Thousands of percent and skyrocketing. Yes - Venezuela is the exact model Bernie Sanders was actively campaigning on just a couple years ago. Think the now-deceased Hugo Chavez.
Don’t try to protect them during formative years. My grandson is ten and wants to know about transgender, etc...They will hear about it. You want it to be from you.
