When will California reach the breaking point?

“It’s now illegal in California to shower and do laundry on the same day,” my husband read out loud to me a few weeks ago.

“How are they going to police that?” I wondered.

“It doesn’t matter,” he replied. “California is so out of touch with reality that it just doesn’t matter anymore.”

It saddens me to watch my former home state implode, but that’s precisely what is happening. California has been called the world’s largest insane asylum, and as headline piles upon headline illustrating the latest madness, the description seems apt.

It’s no wonder people are fleeing the Golden State in droves. What is the incentive to stay when taxes are sky-high, regulations are draconian and capricious, crime is rampant, infrastructure is crumbling, and politicians are so out of touch with reality they think they can make it illegal to shower and do laundry on the same day?

Housing prices, of course, are famously irrational. In Sunnyvale, a modest 848-square-foot home on a tiny lot gained national notoriety for its selling price. “After being listed in March for $1.45 million, it sold within 48 hours for $2 million, or $2,358 per square foot,” noted ZeroHedge. “With Sunnyvale’s 1.25 percent property tax, the new owners are paying $2,083 per month, or $250,000 every 10 years.”

It’s more than just the insane cost of living in the state. Many people are also fleeing the insane policies. Entrepreneur and venture capitalist Peter Thiel (a co-founder of PayPal and an early Facebook investor) says it’s one thing for a culture to be “quite liberal” and another for it to be “totalitarian.” Dissenting opinions are not permitted. If you don’t believe me, walk onto any California college campus with a MAGA hat and see how long you last.

I’ve addressed this in post 77. Nothing has changed in regard to water use in California.

“Property tax on that $2 million hovel is $25,000 PER YEAR.”

Well, this tells me why Vegas is being overrun by Californians moving here (and we have a lot less water than they do). They pay more in just property taxes on that tiny house than I do in principal, interest, taxes, insurance - and the home equity loan on a big pool/spa in the backyard - on a decked out house more than three times the size on 1/3 of an acre. California may be the most insane place on the planet - but the irony is what that Southern Cal Freeper said earlier...there are probably more conservatives by raw number in California than in any other state, they’re just overwhelmed by the sheer masses of leftist immigrants, hard-core gays and the uber-rich white limousine communists.

So what? California hasn’t had a conservative governor in over twenty years. The proposition that left the state a uniparty couldn’t be prevented. Your federal representatives are by and large so far left it isn’t funny

The proposition to spilt the state may give you some grace. VDH named it in his book years ago....Mexifornia

Housing prices, of course, are famously irrational.

The reasons for this?

Illegal alien invaders (think HUD and other govt housing hand-outs)? and foreign buyers (think chinese) scooping up the supply?

I'm not certain, but these are my suspicions.

Actually it has enough water. The problem is that the left has blocked dams and reservoirs and has returned some areas back to “nature”

By the way Georgia has its own water issues

No but there is a law that limits you to no more than 55 gals per day. It was a news article that calculated there were certain things that would exceed the limit if done in one day

It's true and I've said it lots of times.

There are more conservative patriots who voted for Trump in CA than did Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Nevada...COMBINED!

But the problem is, the leftist in CA outnumber them about 3 to 1.

Texas went about 100 years without a Republican governor. We’ve got a loooong way to go.

86 was a good year to leave.

I left for Germany that year and visited twice since. What a waste of God’s bounty!

It isn’t a water source problem, it’s a brain dead liberal problem. California has a cyclic drought weather pattern. However the idiot politicians ruled that the rivers must run to support the fish in the streams that they put there. So they required the reservoirs be drained out to sea to keep the river water level high all summer long.

The law does NOT limit individuals to 55 gallons per day. Read post 77 or stay ignorant.

“It’s now illegal in California to shower and do laundry on the same day,”

Anyone who believes this is sorely uninformed, or stupid.

Pick one.

California is one vote short of having s super majority dem state. The conservatives as it stands now are out gunned. Doesn’t mean you aren’t trying but it is like being a conservative in NYC

No doubt lots are moving to Texas due to $$ factor. But more people are certainly not a key to success. Just look at CA.

Me personally I would never move to Texas. I just don't do high humidity/heat well and would probably become a mass murderer if I had to put up with it. But that's just me.☺
