Thousands of anti-gun protesters shut down lanes of a major Chicago highway to pressure lawmakers to enact gun control measures to address the increase in violent deaths in the city.
The left-wing protesters, led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Catholic priest Father Michael Pfleger, shut down all northbound lanes of Chicagos Dan Ryan Expressway on Interstate 94 Saturday morning after a standoff between the police and the demonstrators.
The marchers carried signs that read, We need jobs, and chanted, Stop the killing, as they walked down the 1.5-mile stretch of highway to let lawmakers know their desire for better schools, more jobs, and stronger gun control laws to combat the violence in their communities.
Some children even stopped to use chalk to write the words, Enough is enough, along the highway route.
When people keep ignoring you, you take it up a notch, Pfleger said. We are going to continue to take it up a notch until we get responses.
The Illinois State Police reached an agreement with the demonstrators early Saturday morning that the protesters could take up two northbound lanes and allow traffic to pass through the other two lanes.
Gov. Bruce Rauners office said in a statement that protesters who ignored the boundaries set by highway workers would face arrest and possible prosecution.
But Pfleger and other protesters ignored the warnings, saying they would occupy the entire northbound section of the highway.
After hearing of the chaotic situation that led to the shutdown of the highway, Rauner tweeted his disappointment in Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for not controlling the protesters.

“Calling for more gun control,in Chicago!?!? —s”
No, the filth want more gun control everywhere else because Chicago is such a hell hole.Everyone else must give up rights.
“Second Ciity Cop” is one of the few sources for the real news of crime in Chicago
“That he remains a “priest” is damning to the Catholic Church....”
Father Phlegm has been an asshole anti-gun crusader for decades. He is a nasty piece of work. His boss, Cardinal Supich,is just as bad. Emanuel’s big thing now is to impose an illannoy version of the ATF on gun stores along with all the extra permits, licensing, inspections, waiting periods, costs, bureaucracy, etc. Goal is to drive as many gun stores out of business as possible. Rauner vetoed their first try.
Possibly because the drug dealers are better armed than the typical Metropolitan Chicago area commuter. It is safer to annoy those who can’t fight back.
Exactly which laws are they asking for and from whom (state or fed)?
One thing I didn’t see in the article:
Rev. Jackson was not able to follow up on Sunday as he was preparing his sermon for his Church congregation.
Oops. Jackson doesn’t have a congregation, does he? Just a handout system in which frightened liberals give money for his causes. Some of which goes to Jackson’s designer clothes.
It should be legal to play bowling for morons blocking streets.
What if an emergency vehicle needed to get through? These idiots would likely attack an ambulance trying to get to the hospital.
They need to buy some guns, go into the streets, and kill...oh...150-200 thugs. THEN the murder rate will go down.
Here is an interesting data point: 80% of murder VICTIMS in Chicago have criminal records!

See cwbchicago.com and heyjackass.com for the down and dirty.
What’s wrong with these Nazi bastards? These “motorists” aren’t the cause of the murder, corruption and crime in Chicago. How the Nazis can manage to get so many retards together in one place to block traffic is beyond comprehension.
And race Pimp / hustler Jesse Jackson is to the right of CPD Superintendent ‘Special Ed’ in the photo.

Cardinal Cupich on Pflegers Dan Ryan shutdown: I encourage them to be bold
Anyone Conservative still attending church should think about what the Chicago cardinal thinks of them.
Wow - you can’t contain that amount of anger. Those guys are pissed! It’s bound to bleed through in some very public ways, and I would suspect very soon.

The left-wing protesters, led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson
Odd. I always expect 'left-wing' to be labeled 'mainstream' and 'right-wing' to be labeled 'far-right white nationalists'.
and the Catholic priest Father Michael Pfleger,
Good old Phlegmer. Always up for a gun-ban effort!
The marchers carried signs that read, We need jobs,
For once, I agree with the antigunners. They sure do!
But, how do the two topics relate? They could have just thrown "SOCIALISM NOW" in there, for good measure.
Protesters shut down lanes of an Interstate highway? DOT should withold federal dollars from the state then.
'BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!'
This is an abomination, so-called shepherds leading their "flock" to do evil, one of them being part of a church which historically unScripturally used the sword of men to enforce doctrinal conformity and enlarge her rule. Now one examples the problem behind the misuse of guns, that of not being rightly controlled from within, and thus misuses his mouth and body against people doing legitimate business.
Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil.. (Exodus 23:2)
Pfleger's social activism has brought him media coverage throughout Chicago and beyond. He has often collaborated and associated with African American religious, political and social activists such as Jeremiah Wright, Joseph Lowery, Jesse Jackson, Harry Belafonte, Cornel West and Louis Farrakhan...On March 28, 2008, Pfleger invited Jeremiah Wright, former pastor of Barack Obama, the former president of the United States, to deliver a blessing at Saint Sabina during a visit by poet Maya Angelou.
In February 2003, Pfleger generated controversy by inviting Al Sharpton to speak at a mass during Black History Month celebrations. Cardinal Francis George disapproved of Sharpton's appearance, due to Sharpton's pro-choice stance on abortion. Since Sharpton was a presidential candidate at the time, archdiocese officials were concerned that having a political candidate speak in church would cause them to lose their tax exemption. However, George decided that trying to stop Sharpton from coming "would be a futile gesture and a waste of effort"
On April 27, 2011, the homepage of the website of the Archdiocese of Chicago released a statement from Francis Cardinal George in the form of a letter, temporarily suspending Pfleger from administering any of the sacraments...Cardinal George lifted the suspension on May 20, 2011. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Pfleger
