Thousands of anti-gun protesters shut down lanes of a major Chicago highway to pressure lawmakers to enact gun control measures to address the increase in violent deaths in the city.
The left-wing protesters, led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Catholic priest Father Michael Pfleger, shut down all northbound lanes of Chicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway on Interstate 94 Saturday morning after a standoff between the police and the demonstrators.
The marchers carried signs that read, “We need jobs,” and chanted, “Stop the killing,” as they walked down the 1.5-mile stretch of highway to let lawmakers know their desire for better schools, more jobs, and stronger gun control laws to combat the violence in their communities.
Some children even stopped to use chalk to write the words, “Enough is enough,” along the highway route.
“When people keep ignoring you, you take it up a notch,” Pfleger said. “We are going to continue to take it up a notch until we get responses.”
The Illinois State Police reached an agreement with the demonstrators early Saturday morning that the protesters could take up two northbound lanes and allow traffic to pass through the other two lanes.
Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office said in a statement that protesters who ignored the boundaries set by highway workers would face arrest and possible prosecution.
But Pfleger and other protesters ignored the warnings, saying they would occupy the entire northbound section of the highway.
After hearing of the chaotic situation that led to the shutdown of the highway, Rauner tweeted his disappointment in Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for not controlling the protesters.

Normmal traffic essentially shuts that freeway down many days.
The taxpayers stopped from going to their jobs and their employers will just have to eat the shit sandwich provided by the Democrats.

There may be a common denominator in gun crime in urban areas but I am not sure what it is:
“In 2014 in New York City, a black was 31 times more likely than a white to be arrested for murder, and a Hispanic was 12.4 times more likely.
For the crime of “shooting”—defined as firing a bullet that hits someone—a black was 98.4 times more likely than a white to be arrested, and a Hispanic was 23.6 times more likely.
If New York City were all white, the murder rate would drop by 91 percent, the robbery rate by 81 percent, and the shootings rate by 97 percent.
In an all-white Chicago, murder would decline 90 percent, rape by 81 percent, and robbery by 90 percent.”

No absolute authoritarian rule will get rid of them. Actually, it is reasonable to assume that leaders in an authoritarian states are themselves sick and evil. Again, history has proven this.
So allow someone to defend themselves when the police cannot or will not.
Just wait until October when the Left is really spun up.

They only did this because honest law abiding citizens are on the freeways. If they did this where it would matter like on the south side of chicago they would have been shot. pure safe meyhem , feel good, virtue signaling.
That caught my eye too. Reads to me that the State Police rerouted traffic for a scheduled parade. I believe the Illinois State Police are anti-gun, as are the politicians. Illinois has a long history of being in favor of disarming and fleecing its peasants.

I’ll bet most of the “protesters” want a paycheck, but not a job. Anybody that wants a job can find one today.
You can’t yell fire (when there is no fire) in a crowded theater and you can’t walk out on a high speed interstate …and call either free speech.
How hard is it to get a carry permit in Chicago? Is it like here in N.J. where only a privileged few get a permit?
Your protest is NOT peaceful. You are illegally detaining me against my will from me performing my legal business. This is tantamount to kidnapping. I have every right to resist your illegal actions against me. It is not my intention to hurt you but this is fair warning that you must allow me to pass. If you are injured, it is because of your own negligence. In 5 seconds, I will proceed on my way.
These protesters probably were members of gangs trying to keep victims from arming themselves.
The slide down this slippery slope started when BLM was enabled to block roads and entrances. There never was anything okay about blocking traffic and blocking access to buildings. I’m guessing nobody’s got the guts to stop it until lots of people die in a burning building (or something equally horrific) because roads or entrances were blocked.
