This is the land of opportunity, and anyone who wants the come here can…legally. That’s not the issue. For the Trump White House, it’s been their stated position to shift our immigration policy toward allowing more high-skilled workers into this country.
As for the families of the low-skilled working immigration population in the country, 51 percent (76 percent counting immigrant-led households with children) are collecting some sort of check from our welfare services. Is that good? No. Does that mean we shut it all down? No. That figure comes from the Center for Immigration Studies, who noted the need for the immigration process to be more “selective.” At the same time, there are a lot of American households with children that are also getting some form of government assistance (via USA Today):
About 51% of immigrant-led households receive at least one kind of welfare benefit, including Medicaid, food stamps, school lunches and housing assistance, compared to 30% for native-led households, according to the report from the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates for lower levels of immigration.
Those numbers increase for households with children, with 76% of immigrant-led households receiving welfare, compared to 52% for the native-born.
The findings are sure to fuel debate on the presidential campaign trail as Republican candidates focus on changing the nation's immigration laws, from calls for mass deportations to ending birthright citizenship..

Trump is right yet again. We need skills based immigration.
Just wondering how the black community feels since the Democrats have now embraced the illegals and not them any longer.
If we can make it unlawful to give welfare to non-citizens, much of the illegal problem will self-deport.
Not only are they on welfare, a drag on taxpayers, but they are also working off-books. This is another impact to taxpayers as they are taking jobs at a fraction of what the going rate would be if there were no illegals.
If they claim it’s 76%, you can probably add 10-15% to that.
Great question.
But, are black welfare benefit $$ numbers going down?
That might be the answer.
I’ll bet it’s even HIGHER!
Blacks are guaranteed to vote Democrat. Illegals are not guaranteed. Why waste money on a sure thing? It's a better investment for the Democrats to blow their money on the illegals.
So?
There are a lot of Americans that commit crimes too.
That does not mean we should import more.
Why are illegals getting so much as a dime? They’re here ILLEGALLY.
For that matter, why are illegals here? They should all be on ICE buses back to where they came. Getting ICE to do their job is the biggest part of the problem.
But Rubio said they were successful entrepreneurs.
If you pay them, they will come.
I thought illegal aliens were not getting benefits. And legal immigrants should not be getting it, else if they are not sponsor or able to support themselves, they should be deported. Didn’t the law used to be that you had to have a sponsor and means to support yourself? Time to revive those rules.
30% of native-born households are on welfare?
And finally, they drain money out of the country sending it south to relatives in Mexico and Central America.
These costs pale in comparison to the public school costs of these invaders; here in NJ many of our schools would be closed and districts merged except for the illegals in the schools. People may be asked to prove residency, but not legality - and the “residency” is often off the books. When there was a discussion a few years ago about verifying legality before admission to public schools, the teachers’ unions successfully squashed that. These illegal dupes are a critical part of transferring taxpayer funds through the teachers’ unions into Dem coffers...
“I thought illegal aliens were not getting benefits.”
That ship sailed away a long time ago.
