A top Republican senator offered a potentially massive clue about Trump's Supreme Court pick

Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch wrote an op-ed article on Friday to bolster President Donald Trump's soon-to-be-announced Supreme Court nominee in which he referred to the pick with the pronouns "her" and "she." Trump has a shortlist of potential nominees, but there's only one woman on it: Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch may have offered a clue about who President Donald Trump will nominate to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, days ahead of the planned announcement on Monday.

In a Friday op-ed article for Deseret News, a prominent newspaper in Hatch's home state of Utah, the longtime Republican lawmaker wrote a defense of the coming nominee amid a highly polarized and evenly split Senate.

"Too much is at stake to allow politics to corrupt the Supreme Court confirmation process," Hatch wrote. "That's why in the coming weeks, I will lift heaven and earth to see the president's nominee across the finish line."

The op-ed was notable for one reason: Hatch referred to the nominee using the pronouns "her" and "she."

"Just as he did with Neil Gorsuch, the president has promised to nominate an impartial judge, a wise and seasoned jurist committed to upholding the Constitution at all costs," Hatch wrote. "But no matter the nominee's background or credentials, progressives will do everything they can to paint her as a closet partisan, if not an outright extremist."

He added: "As the senior member of the Judiciary Committee, I will fight to keep jurisprudence as the sole focus of our confirmation hearings. And I will devote all my energies to ensuring that we confirm the kind of Supreme Court justice America needs: a justice who says what the law is, not what she wants it to be;

I’ll bet that NO ONE knows the pick except Trump (and me).

Not that he hasn’t decided yet, he is just not telling ANYONE! He is punking EVERYONE!

We will only know when Trump makes it official!

Thomas Hardiman.

Hatch is the senior member of the Judiciary Committee so why wouldn’t he talk to Senators Hatch and Grassley?

Could be, but since the left has been attacking Barrett ever since Kennedy announced his retirement I do not think a trial balloon was necessary. They are going to attack whoever Trump nominates so why not go with Barrett? She is the one they fear the most and she is the most likeable. Pretty and super smart with a impeccable resume’.

If we want another Scalia, Barrett is our girl.

OK, this sets up another problem for Democrats. If Amy has 7 kids; 2 are adopted from Haiti - highly likely they are not Caucasians - and one is a special needs child, will they keep harping on her 7 kids? Seems to me they will sound heartless if they do.

I wonder how many Democrats in DC have adopted children from Haiti?

She has seven children. Two are from Haiti, the rest are biological. Maybe she saw a need. She DID clerk for Antonin Scalia.

Women judges make me nervous, though.
